851 And 888 Forum Demise > Rebirth ? @mods

Discussion in '851 / 888' started by Jon Wright, May 9, 2020.

  1. @hindsight/Mike - I have an active logon into the site and might be able to see if your extraction script can work behind it. Let me know if this might be worth a try.

  2. I too have just logged in all my original post from 2007 available ?

  3. Hi all
Been reading over all the posts here, I am new to the Ducati forum but not new to Ducati.
GDPR is the biggest issue which was mentioned in an earlier post, the original creator / moderator still has control if I am correct?
I tried to log on / join but won't let me.
I am on no social media (no I am to an old fart) at all so if this can be up and running then great.
    Not sure I can help?

  4. Thanks for the offer, but I was able to code a method of (legitimate) access a few weeks back, working around the apparent javascript issues on the site ;-)
I too noticed that login was possible.

I am not a lawyer, nor an expert in GDPR - but I'm not so clear on how big an issue this is. We have no contact details for any individual that was previously subscribed to the .net forum, and if/when we open it up, all users will need to resubscribe (for that very reason). I believe that GDPR requires that should an individual request, any posts should be anonymised (that is, username changed), but I believe there is no requirement to purge historic conversations.

I'd welcome anyone with more experience (than me!) in these matters to give a view so that we can ensure that we're doing the right thing here.

I've got the day off work today, and had planned on going hillwalking, but the mountain forecast is for snow and -10C, so I think I'll stay at home!, I've got some ideas that will help prepare the site for launch :)

  5. I am a GDPR practitioner and agree that making people sign in again is a good measure. What we may well want to consider is for the accounts that don’t reactivate, it would be worth cleansing them from the system, as long as that doesn’t screw up posts that they may well have added previously.

  6. Interesting conversation - Chris - let's you and I take this away as a discussion - I'll drop you an email a little later.

As it currently stands, there are >1400 "inactive" user accounts, and if we were to cleanse them, it would take away the content (depends on the definition of cleanse, I suppose).

Equally - if we were to "anonymise" the userids by default, it would remove the ability for people to re-register/re-enable their accounts (which will require a request to an admin - most likely me at the moment to add their email address to the account and thereby enable the "Forgot Password" reset mechanism).

I think there is probably an agreeable midway position.

  7. For the interest of the wider audience... here's what the new site looks like.. quite modern in format to the old one, and also works well on mobile phones. I've pushed some really quite significant updates to the site this morning (and it's no longer running on a raspberry pi on my home network :joy:).

  8. Mike,

Forwarding this picture on the French speaking media.

    Thanks!

  9. Has the old one been fixed ? I was never able to register so couldn't tell.

  10. I can't log in either...

  11. Forum open

Hi folks - we have seen no meaningful improvement in the availability of the old forum site, and so (following the encouragement by this thread and others), I have taken the initiative of making the new forum fully online, I do hope this isn't coming too late, and we can rebuild a vibrant community to continue developing the forum and sharing knowledge about these machines.

Please head on over to https://www.ducati851and888.com/

For those that were previously subscribed to the old (ducati851and888.net) forum, your user id will not work straight away - please read the instructions on how to re-activate your userid - here: https://www.ducati851and888.com/d/117983-re-instating-an-old-forum-id

Drop me an email if you have any problems: [email protected]

.. and of course, please do spread the word.

    Thanks
    Mike

  13. Hi Steve
Good to know your still kicking about hopefully on your 851 special?

  14. Mostly these days on my 956cc Bevel and my almost new '23 Yamaha R7. But I'm still working on/towards putting my 955c 851 back on the road. Well that and my little '74 250 race spec Desmo.
