Perhaps the 959 is a tester to see how the market goes for the sports bike, yes I think the 1299 will have the same exhaust but maybe restyled
My 899 will be my last sports bike as the body doesn't work to well anymore but if I was thinking about a 1299 I would be ordering one soon
I can understand 899 owners not wanting to move to the 959. I think they are stuck because the impression I get is that they need to go 1299.
I'd planned on going to the 1299 when I decide to get rid of my 899. If they decide to plonk those ghastly pipes on that as well I'll end up with an s1000rr for sure unless a viable none pony looking aftermarket option becomes available.
I suspect the heat issue will be worse on the 959... More engine covers will hold more heat in and they will be running the engine even leaner at partial throttle openings for emissions which will add heat. But that said it still wouldn't put me off, I've never ridden a Ducati that doesn't get hot so you just suck it up!
If you believe Italian press 2017 Ducati will ditch the Superquadro altogether and go with 1000cc V4. So the 1299 may never get the bazookas.
Thanks Graeme, I will be really interested to hear your take on them both, having ridden them both so close together.
I have exactly the same mindset/plan , wished I'd already picked up a 1299 in December with the free Akras. The slightest sniff of monster pipes on the 1299 & S1000rr it is. ( Also comes with a mammoth stock pipe but somehow coz it's never been any different, I can get my warped mind round it..funny)
Ahh yes but you can fit a stubby can without too much agro for less than 500 notes on the beamer.. plus the beamer was never a thing of beauty really is it Gladly I'm more than happy with my 899 at the moment. Good job really.
What year is your 899 & would you be confident keeping it out of warranty? ( Stock BM can is supposed to be pretty loud , plenty of popping & banging , Akra is bloody huge, Yoshi is one of the tidiest I've seen..)
stock can is mint sound rosso, pops on overrun , I put arrows on 420 pound from Italy came in 7 days, bm best bike out there.
Mine is a 65 mate so will have it a while. Pretty sure you can get stubby cans for it, you certainly could for the last one. It pops a lot but it's very civilised in terms of how loud it is in my opinion.
