Would they do that? It might be slicing their market a bit thin. Sports bikes aren't even sold that much these days compared to all the other "lifestyle" categories. Rather than slicing and dicing the sports bike market, can't we just have a tasty sports tourer with one of their top engines? I don't mean a "go anywhere adventure bike". I mean a tarmac oriented comfy bike with proper wind protection that looks fab and doesn't have a sit-up-and-beg riding position.
THE 1199 single-sided swingarm will fit if you really can't deal with the looks. But it'll cost you a decent amount and it's heavier too, meaning the 899's looks would have to really bother you to make the change worthwhile.
