899 899's More Popular Than 1199's???

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Ben Mallinson, Apr 10, 2016.

  1. I felt less intimidated on an 1199 than a Fireblade.

  2. Not ridden an 1199 but many blades and can see why. The way they hit their power band is violently hilarious

  3. You are Jorge Lorenzo. What do I win? :)

  5. The most sedate sports bike there is. Fireblade.

  6. Was going to say, I definitely think the 1199 is much more aggressive to ride than the blade, and is quicker

  7. 929 & 954 Blades were pussycats...

  8. 1000rr are pussaycats too

  10. my 1299 with akras and with the up map is really aggressive to ride. especially when trying to go through traffic at around 30mph. there is a power band low down in the revs where it just wants to pull your arms off violently which aint great when you are posing haha.

  11. Are you Talking about Riding the ducs in public roads or on race track? If you want to answer any question about this bikes you have to ride them in a direct comparison on a race track. If you do so you are able to figure out what the bikes are capable of and where the differences are.

I was riding the last time in Brno a bmw s1000rr next a zx10r and after that the rsv4. Each of them a 20 min turn. At the end my 899. The differences in suspension and handling are there but not that big.

I have also tried a 1199 in race trim and it was really hard to get used to the bike. Totally different riding.

If I compare the 1199 with the other liter bikes and my 899 and my zx6r I have I can clearly say that the 1199 needs a much more agressive riding style. Needs to be bushed harder into corners and takes more effort to get it on the line. No question about the torque and power of the 1199 vs 899 and 600 bike but if it comes to lap times I did my fastest laps with the 899. (1199, 899, zx6r).

On this day the fastest lap out of s1000rr, zx10r, rsv4, 899 was with the bmw s1000rr. This bike is fantastic. Perfect handling, easy riding and the engine is the best you can get from the shelves. Also if it comes to price vs what you get. 21k Euro you will get a fully equipped s1000rr. BUT ...

It's not a Ducati. I like my 899 very much, the handling is great to (much easier to ride like the 1199) and the lack of hp isn't an issue for me. Handling is more important to me.

I can't tell anything about road riding because I think this bikes belonge to race track. For public roads i had a 1200 monster which was gorgeous! So fare my experience about the current superbikes I have ridden this year on track. Hope this gives an impression of a mid skilled driver. ( Brno 2.25 min lap time.)

    Greetings from Austria.

  12. cant ride my 1299 on most of the trackdays cause it wont passs the noise levels especially with the akras. how stupid is that.

  13. thats crap, you need a 1199 with termi baffles :upyeah:

  14. There are maybe more 1199's for sale because the 899 is a younger bike and possibly bought on 3 year pcp etc. Therefore the very first bikes will be nearing the end of their finance agreement now. Expect to see a few more for sale in the coming months...

  15. But loads of those 1199s are either on for far more than they're worth, or have loads and loads of miles on them. A fair few people selling 1199s are dreaming at the moment!

  16. It is the start of silly season though, bargain and sensibly priced bikes "generally" disappear now until October..... It's early to say but I reckon 1199's will hold their value quite well, it's discontinued and still the original Panigale... (will still depreciate over time obvioulsly, but in ten years time they'll be holding their value better than an 899 or 1299 in my opinion)

  17. I do agree that some people seem to think that they command dealer prices without any of their back up, ie warranty etc. I know having recently purchased an 2012 1199s which I bought well below book price! Private sellers were looking more than the dealer was and they had higher mileage. Some people live in cloud cuckoo land. None more so than s1000rr owners. Some are looking more money now for a 2010 bike than I paid at dealers near 3 years ago. wisebuyers is a fairly accurate website for a guide to what a bike is actually worth and dealers tend to sell panigales for £1000 to £1500 over their estimate. I managed to pick mine up for £1440 below wisebuyers guide price so I'm pleased.
