8k Miles In A Year. Doable?

Discussion in 'D16 Desmosedici RR' started by Dave, Apr 26, 2015.

  1. Don't you know anyone who can 'doctor' the speedo to add a few miles, I had a mate who could make 1.000's of miles disappear with the flick of a switch, surely there's someone who can add miles?

  2. I've got the bit between my teeth now @Drinky - I wouldn't want to spoil my enjoyment of the sport by "cheating" [emoji13]

  4. When? May be up for a bit of that as new bike should be here and want to get some end of year action...

  5. You could go and see the Bol d'Or in mid Sept in the south of France. That would add plenty - especially if you take the twisty way down.
The added bonus is that someone might steal your bike, so you'd no longer have to worry about it. :)

  6. NERD !

Took mine for an MOT the other day and the odometer difference in 12 months was 11 miles. I'm utterly ashamed. :(

  7. This thread is inspiration! Using a bike and enjoying it rather than worrying about adding miles like so many of us do :upyeah:

Enjoy the adventure. How many of us would love to be doing what you are for the next few months... Me for sure!!

  8. Bugger. Bit of a set-back.

I've just spoken to Ducati Coventry and they tell me that we need to have the 15,00 mile service well underway before my warranty expires. I've had to book-up to take it to them on 8th Sept which means that I have three and a half weeks less than I thought ... and on current plans will be 1,000 miles short of my target!

I need to do some re-thinking about how I can get some more miles in pronto :Arghh:

  9. Oh Poo - why?

  10. I'll happily do a swap for my 1199s for a couple days and stick as many miles as you want on it :D (I'm helpful like that).

  11. Apparently Ducati are getting pretty shirty about free servicing and warranties etc. I had assumed that I could ride it right up to the last few days before the expiry date and then take it in for service just before. JHP say that Ducati will likely resist paying out whatever they can - especially as it will be mega-bucks - so we really need to make sure that all work is done and any warranty work needed is discovered and claimed before the expiry date. To do that they need the bike 3-4 weeks before the expiry date.

  12. Ok - I can get some extra miles on it this weekend by riding to St Davids to visit the in-laws rather than going in the car with my Mrs and kids. Forecast is that I'll get wet on the way back on Sunday but if we wait till tomorrow morning to go rather than tonight as previously planned it should be dry. I'll have to sweet-talk the Mrs.

  13. dude it aint free it was priced in to the bike.

  14. Lets hope its dried out for you before tomorrow....what a horrid day its been!

  15. LOL. Don't know how true it is but popular opinion is that Ducati made a loss on every Desmosedici they made ... and the vast majority of owners haven't really ridden their bikes so they haven't used the warranty or the servicing package for anything other than a basic annual oil & filter service. However you look at it I'll save money if I can get this done :)

  16. yip, could think of worse ways to rack up the miles.

  17. Nobody forced them to make the things. The free servicing thing was an attempt to address the fears of owners who otherwise wouldn't have risked buying such exotica. If their ego made them make the Desmo, then they have to deal with the consequences. Tough s**t for them, I say.

  18. i am kind of in agreement. get em told. not the dealer. ducati.

  19. I'd tell em for you :Rage::Rage::Rage: but they don't talk to me no more... :Angelic:

  20. By the way, JHP sound like a waste of time. Why aren't they backing you up? If they have your bike in their possession for a service within the "free" service period, how come it's your fault that it takes them 3 - 4 weeks to turn it around. Not your problem at all if you ask me. You have a date that this deal expires, if you hand it over for a service before this date, end of story in my book.
