good effort stew,personally i would use the extruded polystyrene STYRODUR EXTRUDED POLYSTYRENE INSULATION 40MM | eBay its cheaper and faster,i have started useing it to make tank patterns,i would also start shaping in 2D first ie get the top shape you wont then do the sides and the rear,break it working sections,buy a radius guage aswell to check you have both sides the same.
I used polyurethane glue which foams up so to speak itself. So when shaping it was easy to sand and cut. I fibre glassed over the top and filler. i also glued the sections on top of each other like making a sandwich. So the glue lines gave me a side line to balance each side.
Just a small update; Got shorty levers, clip ons and a tank catch/lever ordered and also, after a fair bit of searching on ebay for small LED indicators for the front I have decided in the end to use the ones that were already with the bike for the time being. They look OK and they'll do for now and changing them at a later date would be easy if required. Just drilled through the headlight housing to keep things clean;
The new clip ons got delivered and fitted. They look a lot better than the old ones, which on closer inspection were quite a bit 'out of symmetry' even though the bolts were on the same settings on each side?? The new ones may be 'Chinese' but they feel a lot sturdier, look better and are straight! After fitting the front brake and clutch units on each bar, I've realised that the reservoirs foul the clip on if pushed right to the inside of the bar. This is not a problem on the throttle side as I am running no switch gear on that bar, but with the clutch side, I think I'm going to be very tight for space. Just waiting for levers to arrive to line everything up. Old and new clip ons;
Unfortunately, other than fitting levers/grips and fiddling with the front end the other day I've not been near the bike. Uni assignments and approaching exams are eating too much of my time!! With my last exam being the 8th May, I'm hoping that with a big push, all going well, I could be blasting about on it early June(ish)!!?
I'm back in the game. New mould made up today, filled with the hard setting foam. Initial fitting to the bike sorted and a little bit of shaping. Just going to take my time with the rest of the shaping and try not to f*ck it up . . . . . again.
Yeah, both side saddle! After dinner I couldn't resist it and ended up heading out to the shed for some more shaping. Quite happy with how it's going this time. Just slowly but surely getting a shape I'm happy with. (The second photo is quite 'Monster-ish').
Yeah rcv4, the entire thing will be getting fibre glassed over. The bottom of the original seat foam will also be getting glassed so as to provide a sturdy base for upholstering it.
@J0n3s ; Yeah, the clock is made by KOSO. This model I believe; Digital Speedo Speedometer Gauge RPM Idiot lights KOSO DB01 Cable Drive Version | eBay @rcv4 ; That is something that had crossed my mind. I have kept big pieces of off-cut that I can test out on before committing to doing the whole thing. Back at work for four days now so I'm hoping to get the fiber glassing done on my next set of days off.
Yesterday, I bought what is going to be a serious distraction to my project . . . . ! (When the roads are dry )
