900ss 1994: Regulator/rectifier Went Up In Smoke (literally)

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by doublehead, Jul 9, 2020.

  1. Ok, need to charge the battery first. Tried to start it when I tested the resistance, but it's flat.

  2. Tested with engine running, idled at ~1500 revs and showed 20Vac. was at around 2500 revs and it showed 30 Vac. Should be ok. Ordered a new part from Stein Dinse because I don't have to adapt the wiring loom. It's a drop-in replacement witouth over-voltage protection so I'll be fitting a Voltmeter, connected to the output of the regulator.

Tiny, should'nt disturb much. Can be removed without a trace. Shows from 5 to 30 Volts with 1% deviation.

  4. New regulator/rectifier is in, testdrive done. Before, the bike had a stutter between 5 and 6k when opening the throttle rapidly which is gone now. Multimetre shows 15-ish Volts on the reg/rect itself, battery says 14,2 V max. Should be good for a while now.
