900ss Assembly (1)

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by gaz92, Apr 1, 2022.

  1. Or wiggle the sprocket, if the wheels not connected as per your pic

  2. Thanks Desmo.
Ok indexes a bit better. I was turning the sprocket but was better turning it while changing gear. Gear selector adjusted to equal clearance both sides pins. I still think I am missing one more shift though.

  3. I think I could be OK if the following is true.
Fully down position 1st gear White dot is at about 2 o'clock bottom picture. I had the switch connected and the continuity beeped as it was half way between gears (I was thinking neutral was the 2nd index round but it seems to halfway, sorry if this is obvious). So top picture is fully changed up i.e. 6th gear.
    Can anyone confirm
    Cheers Gaz

  4. I don't think I've ever had a bike that would select all gears without either the engine running or the sprocket being moved slightly by rocking the bike backwards and forwards.
Some gears yes, but not all.

  5. Ok I know the following may sound obvious now. I think I confused myself by thinking neutral had its own position on the selector Drum. Doing a bit of reading and thinking it through OBVIOUSLY neutral is between 1st and 2nd. (Also hence getting a false neutral when changing between other gears). So as per photos 1st gear is at 2 o'clock white spot bottom photo ref post #42. When the white spot clicks round 5 times to 12 o'clock it takes it to 6th gear. So I think I am OK.
    Thanks all for comments.
    Cheers Gaz.

  6. Next one.
I put the chain guide on and emediately it looked out of position. There is a raised section on chain guide which I presume corresponds with the rollers on the chain.
This looks to be way out, see gap to swing arm.

I did buy a second had chain guide. I will have a look and check if the one fitted is the original.
    Anyone had similar problem.

    Cheers Gaz

  7. Yes, when I put in a different gearbox and the shaft was longer

  8. Desmo,
This is the original set up. Just hoping it's the wrong chain guide.

  9. Conflicting Clutch Centre nut torque values.
Had a search on forum and both 140 & 180/190 are quoted. Haynes says 180/190, ducati workshop manual says 137/147.
1992 model - anyone got a definitive answer.

Also there is a mark on the end of the shaft - does that need to line up with anything I can't see it mentioned anywhere.

  10. Another question.
Just watch a video (Andy's MC Obsession) and noticed he put a shim in behind the clutch hub. I am pretty sure I kept everything together but don't seen to have on. Not sure but think its item 1 see below.
    upload_2022-8-31_13-28-18.png

Also there are a few different size shims, how do you decide which one?

    Cheers Gaz

  11. Ok peep your time is up.
    1. Going 137/147Nm as per Ducati workshop manual.
    2. Don't think the marks on the shaft line up with anything - looked at quite a few videos and people seem just to put the hub straight on with out checking anything.
    3. I might have been mistaken about the shim or spacer again can't see it on other videos.

    Sorry for confusion

    Cheers Gaz

  12. Got a photo of left ignition (red cable right white left) can't see from my photos and I think it was covered in tape which side black and yellow is.
Would appreciate anyone with a 1992 900ss if they could have a quick check.
    Many thanks on anticipation.

  13. According to Brad Black (from the other Ducati forum) left to right is red white black yellow.

  14. Sorry, should be white red black white - dementia rules.

  15. Here are pictures of the pick up wires to the igntion units taken when I had a 900SS 15 years ago.

  17. Been trawling Internet for info on this connector and de- pinning, got fed up, anyone know what it is and how to de-pin. Rear brake light and indicators.

  18. Ok, so you can't de-pin them.
I think it's called a Metri-Pack 150.2 pull to seat which means it's put in backwards hence no de-pinning facility.

    Cheers Gaz.
