Excellent post. Did belts on my sons 900sport. Well I wasn't gonna start on mine first was I ? All very straightforward. The chalk marking gives a real level of reassurance when refitting. Can't add much other than: - lock the cam pulley on the horizontal cylinder. There's a small slot head screw into the side of the casing where the timing mark is. Whip it out and screw in a longer (25mm or more) screw. You can file the end to fit perfectly if you want. I didn't. It nips down on the pulley behind the belt. So that one won't move - vertical cylinder cam pulley does move. It's balanced on TDC so will pop 40 degrees or so either way. Took me a few goes to align. There is a little inspection screw as per horizontal cylinder but I couldnt see whether the same trick would work. If ever the engine is out I will investigate - tensioning. Our local stars at Italia Moto Lincoln checked the tension with the frequency thingy. I had it a bit tight 152hz. Needs to be 130hz. Not desperate. But the mechanics could feel that by hand.....inexperience on my part. - advise changing the shoulder bolts that hold the tensioner pulley. They are quite thin at the shoulder and have been known to shear. Dropping the head into the running belts. Catastrophic. Torgue them rcorrectly. Job done Thanks for the advice Paul
Latest thinking is that 130Hz is too tight, even from new. If you've been riding it, probably best to set it to 100Hz
All good thanks everyone .... First run up the road. Cleared lots of oily smoke from the sludgy crap that's been in it whilst it sat for three or four years. Now to suspension
Hi chaps. Regarding getting the front cover off, I found I could remove the oil cooler mounting bolts, then pull it forward and to the right to get enough space to slide the cover out.
