  1. I’ve made some stupid mistakes in the past, hopefully I’m older and wiser now :)

  2. My daughter bought a Fiesta that turned out to be on its original belt at 122,000 miles, I think it was supposed to be changed at 120,000
The Fiesta belt has to compress 16 valve springs for every cycle and run a water pump as well.
Each of these Ducati belts only has to open and close 2 valves every cycle with no springs to compress.
The Ducati does rev higher and the belt has tighter turns.

IMHO though, the real difference is that the Fiesta has a sprung tension pulley/roller, so perfect (theoretically) tension at all times and no possibility of a slack belt jumping teeth.

As I understand it, belts rarely break on their own - with Ducatis it is either shredded belts from incorrect installation (more likely on a 4 valve engine) or slack belts causing teeth to jump that cause belts to go

  3. With cars like the Fiesta, it is generally seized water pumps that break belts, which is why a new belt, tensioner and water pump are often sold together as a kit.

  4. Just looking at exactuk.com - is it worth getting the bearings too and doing them at the same time. I don’t know if they’ve ever been done so maybe best to do them now ?

@Exige does the forum member discount still apply please ?

  5. He will do, it is worth checking the idler bearings, they are easy enough and cheap enough to replace. Simply read the bearing no on the side of the bearing and order 4 from ebay or @Exige. They are a common bearing. The other bearing with integral threaded shaft is not a generic part. From my own investigation they appear to be made specifically for Ducati and only available from such suppliers. Stein Dinse may have cheaper than Ducati themselves. Ive seen them between 20 to 40 quid each. If its spinning ok without roughness just leave them.

  6. I might be being slow here, which one is the bearing with the threaded shaft ?

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  7. Am I correct in thinking the TB900 is the correct one for my 900ss ie year 2000 ?

  8. Yip indeed :)

  9. Its the one opposite the adjustable tensioner bearings

  10. Thank you.

It’s probably stupid of me to ask these questions before I start, I’m sure when I am taking things apart it will be more obvious.
Pics are all well and good but you can’t beat actually doing it.

  16. Odessey batteries are extremely good. Mann filters for the oil and fuel. I use ebay for service bits. Halfords can be good with trade card but sometimes their prices are already somewhat inflated

  17. Cheapest way I know to get a Yuasa

  18. Aye, maybe, but they arent the only option.

  19. Of course
