I thought it stood for injection excellence. When you think about some of the mares new bikes like MV are having with fuelling it is amazing how smooth the injection system is on old ducatis from nearly 20 years ago. Top banana.

Absolutely, despite my Benelli being the updated version (evoluzione 04 according to the sticker on the top yolk) the injection on the Ducati is still a lot smoother. No mean feat on a 900cc twin. I believe ie stands for something like inezone electronique, Italian for electronic injection.
