As said 1000 is best SSie, smoother motor with later ecu. The red frame SSDS are quite rare and will have ohlins rear shock and posh swingarm, both of which are v.des. The 900 got these briefly in final year 2002.
Hi Mandz Ignore the locals they are :Clown: Why do you want to give up a bike that makes you smile The 750 SS is a fab bike I had a 600 and I loved mine I have ridden a 900 Ssie and while it was fuel injected etc there is just something nice about a carby 750 is enough power I would say and stick with it for a couple more years Have ridden a multi 1000 ds too very quick and easy and I hankered after my SS I think you will regret swopping but that's my opinion Make sure it's red too
FWIW have owned 900ssie and 1000ssie, yes pretty to look at and go quick enough to surprise but no appreciable difference or benefit between them on the real road, perhaps the fuelling on the 1000 was slightly improved due to later ecu, but there again the immobiliser can cause problems, (watch out for the 900s, many variations of spec toward the end of production) the suspension is poor on both, don't be fooled by the OE Ohlins on the later models it's not the same thing, and if you're over 5'10" they're bloody uncomfortable too. (not ridden a 750 but a lot of people on here have and rate them, rode the 800 that was a sweet lump too, still uncomfortable tho) think DB may have something there. cheers WAH
Gotta disagree with there being no appreciable difference - the 1000 makes the same torque at 3K rpm that the 900 does at its peak. It's a longer stroke engine and gruntier (everywhere) for it. The heads are a different design and more efficient. The forks are good enough and the same as fitted to the earlier SuperBikes. And whilst not being a £1200 rear shock the Öhlins fitted to the 1000 is a much smoother running unit than that fitted to the 900, plus it is length adjustable which is ideal for helping different height riders or allowing a more sporty geometry with better ground clearance if riding more sportily. @Mandz - sorry - was under the table last night... :Bag:
that's fine just my opinion based upon ownership, granted the output numbers are larger what with cc, stroke and twin plug head etc. but can the average rider really tell the difference? I couldn't. The ssie forks are closer to ST2 than superbike 916 et al, and poorer for it, they may share 43mm fork dia but o/d is larger on 916 hence no straight swap with the smaller o/d ssie (50mm top yoke) and fair enough the ohlins unit will enable geometry changes, so they supplied the 1000 with a 180 section rear tyre that effectively slowed the steering in comparison to 900 and it's 170 tyre!
Dunno... My POV - took it seriously to begin with then wondered if it was a pissed mate winding me up (assuming I'd respond to an SS thread). And I was fookin ratted....
