I was long sceptical of the phone app setting thinking that it might be too variable but, for the first time this year tried it out. I set the 916 tension by my usual method (Facom belt gauge) and then checked it with the phone app and I was impressed with how accurate and repeatable it appears to be. Did the same with the Monster belts (Facom gauge unfortunately doesn't fit) using the old school go/no go allen key method and, again the app appears to confirm the settings and also highly repeatable. I will definitely be using it in the future, along with the mechanical methods as a belt & braces approach.
I’ve tried every which way to tension the horizontal belt, no joy always too close Vertical looks fine, may swap them over just to see if it’s me or the belts
I’ll do it tomorrow, see what happens never had a problem in the past. I’ve ordered some new belts too The texture of the new belts seems different to the ones that came off but they weren’t Ducati belts, But sure have the previous belts that were Ducati belts, will dig them out and compare
Difficult to measure but horizontal 3mm vertical 4mm clearance I’ve dug some old belts out All low miles. genuine 2015ish Exact fitt 2018 ish They all measure the same give or take a few hundredths of a mill But the new genuine belts feel and look different
Here’s my 1098 horizontal cylinder belt for comparison. Obviously not the same bike but belts have plenty of spacing. .
It’s usually noticeable , from memory turning the eccentric one way (CW?) puts the belts closer ,turning the other way (A-CW? ) puts the belts further apart .
And those gold (996) idler pulleys are a couple of mm bigger than the black (916), so give better distancing. They're what I used on my 916 to compensate for the skim/squish.
