  5. Actually, the reason I posted this picture is to show that now, the calipers look dirty. It looks worse in person. I have taken this type of calipers completely appart a few times, including those on the picture, and tried to clean them using break cleaner, soap, etc. but never got a really good result.

I am thinking ultra sound, at this stage. Is that a good idea? Any experience to share?

Thanks in advance for your insight on this.

  6. I have used Hammerite smooth gold in the past on my old 748.
Not a bad match but not perfect.

  9. This probably just reflects my ignorance, but is that the usual way of connecting the hydraulics to the caliper on your bike? On my (851) SP3, the bleed nipple is on the top and the hose attached to the lower one with a banjo fitting. Just wondered.

No banjos on this girl’s front calipers. And based on the 916 shop manual, yes, this is the correct way. But to be honest, you had me doubting for a minute… o_O

I should also add that it brakes perfectly as is. :upyeah::)

  11. Can't argue with that - wonder why Ducati changed it from the earlier SP3? This is from the Stein-Dinse website:

  12. Well, I guess this is one of many things that changed between the 851/888 and the 916.

I don’t know the technical motive either. Practicality (quicker to swap calipers), may be?

  13. Missed this the first time around.

Great thread, lovely clear pictures and a superb job of putting a great bike back on the road.

What made you want to change from the Carbon/Mag wheels?

  14. I wanted the carbon/Mag wheels for my 998 Matrix.

Dymags (CF/Mag) were offered on the DP accessories catalog circa 2003 and therefore are « period correct » for the 998.

Marchesinis (Mag) were offered from 1996 on the various accessories catalogs, so “period correct” for the 916.

  15. Thanks Ricky. I am not so much looking to repaint the calipers. More like giving them a deep clean.

  16. Looks amazing mate, enjoy !!

  17. Bike looks fantastic with either.

Maybe it’s just the lighting in the picture but the paintwork looks super shiny - have you done anything to it?

I find that I end up with micro scratches in all paintwork after a while regardless of how I try to keep it polished.

  18. its weird the amount of people that are in love with their bikes, i am too, cant wait to see it again, i am always thinking about it, sometimes i go to bed thinking about it, especially if i am out the next day. its like a love struck teen thing.

  20. It has only 5000 miles and was a sunny day only type of ride before I got it last spring. These are the OEM panels and they look brand new. So it stays clean pretty much all the time (save for the summer bugs) and I don’t wash it very often. When I do, I use Vulcanet. That’s a wonder.
