92 900ss - Did My Starter Just Die On Me?

  1. I think most of the bikes of that era used the same starter

  2. UPDATE: Yeah, it was the brushes in the starter. Was going to get an Electrex starter but they were (possibly still are) out of stock. Bought a set of brushes from them instead for just under £30 inc postage. Found a “how to” online for replacing the brushes without removing the starter for an ST2 (great instructions, can post a link if any one needs?) and thought I’d give it a go. As others on this thread have said, it is fiddly, but it can be done.

My god, what a PITA. I guess if you’re practiced at it then it really is only an hour’s job, but I’ve spent about 3 and a half IMG_9320.jpeg on it over the past two nights. The hardest part is getting the brushes onto the stator and the brush plate positioned right so that the end cap will go on. Apart from that, piece o’ piss! And she started up right on the button afterwards. Having a beer now.

Thanks all for your help and advice.

    Cheers

    James
