749 924cc Bike Build.

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Northan Monkey, Feb 10, 2016.

  1. I'm hoping the airflow should be enough to prevent the paint bubbling plus the reflective tape.
Bear in mind it won't be left idling for any length of time.

Avoid letting it pool in the corners as it will pucker up rather than wrinkle.
I clear lacquered mine and I'm dubious how durable it will be.

  3. Anybody interested in some 999 covers for the red paint?
    These are already unpainted.

Great build, looking forward to see it in full race trim.

  4. I popped into the garage at weekend to dig the MTB out for me and Mrs NM to go out for a trundle. When I spotted a damp patch of oil under the 924.
    Bollocks!
So. After some investigation. It would seem I have oil leaking down the centre of the alternator wires and dripping out of the connector.
Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon??

  5. Loving the thread..... any news on you oil leak and bodywork ??

  6. I collected the body work yesterday. But it needs some work. The finish is a bit shit / uneven.
The oil leak could be a pain. As I don't fancy having to strip the engine cover off again.

  7. Sorry to hear you bodywork isn't up to the standards you clearly set ...Is there enough paint material on them to allow you to flat and mop them ? ....though I guess the leak is more of a pressing issue at this stage ....good luck ...

  8. The paint was a cheap job by one of the guy at our wind tunnel. So it's not the end of the world. And yes some 2000's wet n dry and bit of cutting compound should make things more to my standard. But ultimately it's not a show bike. At some point I'll be picking it up out of the gravel!
Oil leak wise. It's a tiny leak. But it's still a leak. I'll probably try to pot up the plug and re route slightly.

  10. That stand looks mighty close to disaster!
    Looking good!

  11. Not wishing to tempt fate. But.
It's pretty stable. However I do tread carefully if I'm doing anything physical.
Although it's a bastard to get the Ducati on there compared to the little Rs250. I may need to make a MKII version.

  12. It's official.
    It's finished.

  13. Looks great mate, love the colour scheme, reminds me of a Night Burner (not that i'm old enough to remember them ;) )

  14. How does it run, can you feel a marked difference from the original lump?

  15. Bloody hell I remember those.
They looked cool. But weren't a patch on a Huffy or Diamond back.

  17. Only been on the rollers so far and should really visit again.
Regrettably work has been busy and I've had to do the last two GP's which were back to backs and I'm off on holiday tomorrow. So its first Trackday should be end of the month/early September if I can get the time booked off.

  18. Thanks. Hope it goes as well as it looks. I'm pretty happy with the look.

  19. So Tuesday's the big day out for the 924. I'm trying to get back on the roller before. But I doubt it's going to happen. So I guess I'll be having a couple of steady sessions to give me a chance to have a sift through the data and adjust the fuelling as I go. But I'm confident I'm not too far off. I just need to sort the roll on throttle enrichment map. Which I hope I can diagnose and remedy quickly. It a crono day so i think I'll get bumped in to the dreaded inters group. Fingers crossed.

  20. image.jpeg Just Dug out the dyno graph.
You can see the Huge lean throttle opening area. Which I've been working to resolve. The spikes on the torque curve is caused by the ignition pick up dropping out and why the graphs in mph not rpm.
