  1. It's pretty good value for money... £200ish I think. There is a know design flaw the the valve stack. It can't flow oil on small high speed bumps... Effectively locking out. They modify the shims and bench test. Difference is meant to be really noticeable

  2. He said the difference will be massive and he's really enthusiastic about it so inclined to believe him. Really looking forward to testing it out

He has bench tested it and said its a great shock now!

I actually said I wanted an ohlins but he was sure this shock is good once modified and a better way to go for the road

  3. Yeah let us know how you get on, I just feel like I have so much more feeling and plushness

However give it a fair test of 20-30 miles to really start to feel the difference

  4. Softer?!.... I'm under 80kg and with the track preload and compression damping settings I'm still bottoming them out on track (and not braking particularly heavily). Softer springs seem like a very odd way to go.

  5. Im pretty sure he advised softer springs yeah.

On a side note what was your trackday noise tested at?

  6. Softer doesn't make much sense to me, but I'm not the expert.

103.3dB at 5,000rpm with the US system on it, so Euro 4 will be quieter.

  7. Performance bikes mag seems to claim they tested a 959 at 103db with Euro spec exhausts, which seems high.... I'll see if I can dig out the mag, that said my 899 has '108db' stamped on the frame

  8. At Bedford the 899s with Termis and baffles were not even going as high as 108dB. Maybe the 108dB is at full revs?... Or 3/4? Who knows?

How and where did performance bikes test? Was the bike warm? We're there any building lose by? It would only be a useful test if they had an 899 and 959 together tested by the same person under the same conditions....

Also, it is quite hard to hold exactly at 5,000 and there is probably quite a difference between 4,800 and 5,200. I always try to keep a bit under if I can.

Edited to add, that the US/1299 exhaust is noticeably louder, so if that is testing at 103, I can't believe a euro4 one is. Anyone here had a Euro4 959 tested?....

  9. Was just thinking that! My 899 tested 103db @5k rpm with termi's and baffles.

    Fitted the shock yet?

  10. I'm with you on this one Jolley, I upped the front preload and compression damping to try to match the rear a bit better as they seemed unbalanced. Worked good on the track but very nearly bottoming out and I'm 85kg without kit.

  11. I'm 88kg and wouldn't want the front springs any softer on mine.

  12. Where is the compression damping if you are nearly bottoming out?

  13. It's not cranked right up or anything, I think that I'll have a play with it on track next weekend and see how it goes. It's fine for the road so I don't get bucked off on crappy roads but could do with a tweak for the track I think. Can't remember what my actual setting is though, I'll have to count how many clicks I'm up to.

  14. Thing is that if it's bottoming out the compression damping will only slow the speed in which it does it and make the forks harsh in the process. Personally it sounds like it needs harder springs so that u can run with less compression damping for a plusher ride (oh er)

  15. Yeah, that's the reason I didn't completely crank it up! I don't think that I have the preload up all the way either though so I think that I'll just play with the two of them to find out what works best on the track. That said, it's really close but not actually bottoming out (so far) so I may be alright. Tyre wear seemed really good last time I had it on track so that's usually a good indicator that the settings aren't too far off what's required. :)

  16. Maybe he said stiffer springs I couldn't be sure. The biggest benefit comes from changing the oil I believe.

  17. I've heard this also, going to get mine done over winter.

  18. Not nearly... It is bottoming out because I put a zip tie on to check. Compression damping is on the handbook track setting (1 turn), so nearly fully on. Thicker oil would obviously help the damping, but the damping feels ok. I just think it needs stronger springs, and maybe thinker oil with the damping backed off a little.

  19. Took the bike for a 100 mile test ride today on one of the bumpiest, twistiest Routes i know.

I can definitely say the MCT modified shock is a huge improvement

The bike no longer bobs up and down constantly and you can definitely feel what the back tyre is doing more now

I would certainly recommend anyone with a 959 or 899 does this also for the sake of £220.

  20. Glad u like it! I've got a really grainy warn rear tyre on mine now after the trackday from a few weeks back and I'm still getting loads of feel from the rear. Also, this is the wear pattern which I would say is a sign of the shock doing a really good job supporting the rear now....
