Fully floating, disc attached to centre with bobbins only, completely free to move. Semi floating, disc attached to centre with bobbins, wavy washer or star washer on the bobbins, disc moves but washer gives some resistance to stop rattling noise. Fixed, disc bolted to centres or all one piece as with most cars, no movement. Discs in the picture above are semi floating.
Ok semi or full floating either how the upshot is you can't get them according to several Ducati dealers but if you can as has been posted here then do please post a link as I'd like to get myself 2 new discs (exactly as the pictures) and pads...thank you
My parts book list the standard 996/996Bip as 492.4.010.1A. I haven't got a parts book that covers the 996R but if you put 49240261A into google this comes up Ducati SBK 996/998 Front Brake Disc - 49240261A | eBay Says 996R and some of the other trick ones so it might be worth giving Woods a ring tomorrow.
worth a shot....cheers that was my first plan of attack.....new discs, bobbins, star washers.....we'll see how it pans out
Or, if it comes to it, use 998s discs with 5mm ally spacers between the calipers and forks. The 998 ones have the same pattern (Star) centres.........996bip, s, etc are the "Snowflake" design.
Thats incorrect the 996r has sae offset as std bikes they are just a different design of disc. Only the 748r and 998r have the deeper offset
that's a good idea something worth looking into.....I'm guessing that spacers aren't something that's readily available and will have to be machined.......I'll see what JHP and Harris come back to me with today.......thanks chaps it's been enlightening
Yep, just looked in the garage, the 6r discs do look flatter comapred the 999 15mm offset discs. Happy to stand corrected
