I know this has now been extensively covered, but my twopennyworth is simply, If you can afford it, buy or stick with the one you like best.
It wouldn't be a drop handlebar bike, that's for sure. All the weight on your wrists and hard to see over your shoulder.
Don't agree at all with the no sports bike is good for commuting. I commute daily from St Albans to Kensington on my 749 (black one ) and it is effortless. It's about an hour each way for me, bike is on 21k now and never misses a beat. I do sit right up to the tank so virtually straight and there is no wrist ache at all, the bike is so narrow you can fit through virtually any gap plus the noise of the thing (Termis and open clutch) people are aware I am around.
The great british sewing bee?? you gotta be shitting me... been here 11 years and the shit people are made to endure on tv is f@*ken criminal...... Sorry.. My 2p, Never been a fan of the 999 shape ( except looking down on it from behind, then it is to me a work of art) but it is iconic for its uniqueness... the 899, as someone posted earlier, will depreciate to a point that in a few years you could pick a good un for a reasonable price. You've already endured the depreciation of yours (and a few harsh comments no doubt) keep it man!!!!! ugly or beautiful? it is a classic....
999 nero group, will you be letting the Dark owners in? And what about 749 Nero? If I get my 999 red resprayed can I join or does it have to be factory paint, it is MY 05.
I reckon we should let in 749 Nero owners, but maybe not Dark owners. We have to be needlessly discriminating. After all, the idea of the Dark was a sort of non-colour which the owner would gradually customise with all sorts of expensive Ducati goodies. It was to occupy a price point rather than an aesthetic sensibility, even if, inevitably, some owners have chosen them deliberately for what they look like. Nero owners, on the other hand, just think that black looks classier than red and for several models, they are right!
Yep dark are cheapskate, commoners anyway. They can start their own group. My 999 is red with a corse stripe so Im unique.
Yes, there clearly ought to be another needless subgroup for Dark owners. I have no idea what these groups are meant to achieve.
Stand in the corner in small groups discussing the types of polish that don't make their paint too shiny.....
Keep the 999... Much prettier bike than the 899... To me the new gen machines are a step backwards.. Just my opinion.
True nuff... Just as many got the arse with the wet clutch on the 848... Maybe as you get older you appreciate older things & distrust change? Says the bloke with an 848 haha... If I ever upgrade though I'd not go with either the Pani or babygale... Its all subjective.
If you want to go faster, safer, get the 899. If like me, you just want something you enjoy riding when you get chance, that 999 is a definite keeper.
faster safer and more comfortable from what I read. better handling maybe. Still get burnt leg riding in town tho.
