  1. Fancy calling your lady friend a bike :Wideyed: And then be willing to sell her for $11,500. Shocking.

Mind you, I'd be getting rid of her for leaving 2 sweeaty imprints on my tank too.

  7. If you gave me 30K and a 999 for my 998 I might think about it.. for about 2 seconds. I'd then sell the 999 and buy a 998R.

Seriously though, the 748, 916, 996 etc.. is a very memorable motorcycle for a lot of people.
For me it is the definitive Ducati. If I was older I perhaps say different because some earlier ones look interesting.

I'm not saying newer ones are not attractive, I guess it depends what you want it for
but when you talk about performance and handling there are lots of options (bikes) out there.

Same with cars, most new sports cars work well-ish but older ones have character and personality despite not being the fastest there are loads of old cars I'd like to drive and only a few new ones. Also am I wrong in thinking some how in the past accomplishments seemed more celebrated or remembered (excluding Rossi). Maybe I am wrong about that?

  8. Why ?

  9. I don't like the Green Matrix edition of the 998...
But not as bad as the badly dubbed 4 cylinder jap sound track used in the film.

  10. think topics 've gone side way!
i'm more than qualified than most to comment??
due to the facts dat I 've it park downstairs, right now.
    I might b a bit bias cos I 've own a 916bp than a 916sps.
    later dis year,i acquire a 2006(last of the breed)999s.
the 06 model is heavily revised(probably the best of the bunch)with the R(works, black)swingarm, radial brake, and updated fairing.
why did I purchase dis,u might wonder.
ducati only make 5 superbike&singapore, where I am from, only starts importing from the 916 onwards.so basically,i 've already own 3 of their superbike.
juzz need 1 to comlete the jigsaw puzzle.
how's the ride(u 're taking too long)
basically the 999 looks front bias,it also feel front heavy
probably,'ll balance everything up on the track(not going down,so soon)but it got the 1st gen testaretta engine which a bit refine(I dun like dat)
my 916sps is raw personified, being a desmoquattro engine blah blah blah.and it handle like a dream(track&road),do I need to say,it looks awesome.
    what one do I fancy?
actually of the 4,my sps is the one.
one little facts,i discovered recently is..............the 999 is the most successful of all ducati 5 superbikes, more win, more championship&believe it or not ,dats the only time, the 4s & the twins compete on equal footing,1000cc
sorri to bore u guys,do 've a wonderful days ahead

  11. Probably because we all suspect we are being followed by the Old Bill.
    We probably are.

  13. Rode for 1 hour on Friday night on 996 and 3 hours Sat on 999.

996 looks better and sounds better and makes you feel more special and gets more attention.

999 is the better machine. (Fila paint scheme draws a crowd whenever I park though).

996 is going to get engine mapped and suspension rebuilt and set for me by a professional to try to redress the balance a bit.

  15. For me when it comes to looks 916 series all the way!!!! 999's are the One time they slipped up with the look but that's just what I think. I can't comment on the ride but the 916 sounds amasing! Either way they are both a lot more special than a Jap bike!

  16. Update. 996 now has new tyres and suspension properly set up and now handles better than 999.

999 needs new tyres and suspension properly set up me thinks!

Fallen totally back in love with 996.

  18. 999 out for 50mls tonight. Not been out in about a month and started first go! Boy she's quick. Definitely vibrates more than 996. Mirrors are shocking. Handling better than I remember.

Really needs a slippery clutch and fast action throttle.

  20. Throttle-body balance? R1 twist-grip?
I have an Oberon Streetfighter mirror on mine - the smaller, more discreet version. It sits just over my little finger and barely adds to the width. It fills in the blind-spot immediately behind perfectly though - wouldn't be without it...
