  3. I have a 999R and its been a great bike but I have never ridden it on the road, thus have no idea if its comfortable or adapted to road use. On the track it's fantastic.

As far as race bikes go, the 999 has to be one of the best looking ever. The 07 RS race bikes just look fantastic.

Today if I was to spend money on a bike it wouldn't be a 999 or 848. Both are outdated, time moves on. However chosing between the 2 I'd put my money into an 848.

  4. samsung photos 254.jpg well i love mine and can easly do 300-400 miles in one trip with out any pain

  5. I did not like the 999 when it came out so much so that when I wanted another bike to go with my 748 i bought an MV.
Now I have changed my view I realy think the 999 style is lovely. Its an unmistakeable style nothing else looks like it and it still looks modern
You say you have never had a sports bike and want to "scratch an itch"

I have a 1098 and love it but compared to the 748 and MV its riding position is almost touring position

Get a 999 reason being Its a smart looking bike, Its riding position is sporting a bit less than a 916/748 but more than the 848.

If you buy one or the other and then find you realy don't like sports bikes you are more likely to get most of the money you spend on a 999 back as opposed to selling the much more common 848

    And finally get a 749R

  6. Sure we can all find terrible looking examples Pete...oh no hold on you did of both variants :upyeah:

Funny thing is, the T9 seems to have those who loved its looks when it came out, and still do, but to the majority it will always be a slapped arse (or it would have sold better) in the same way a Fuglystrada is...doesn't stop the, being good bikes

saying that...contradiction time...they look way better as a race rep (Airwaves looks great) and for some reason the R seems prettier

  7. Well I had a 999 and now on my 2nd 848
The 999 is iMarmite.jpg and Ducati couldn't have half their potential customers actually hating a bike. as has been said the riding position on the 999 is extreme compared to the 848 and whilst the 848 may be a bit firm on the rear (which is easily resolved) the 999 was always a bit of a tug to get it into a corner. Everyone will have a favourite, so whatever floats ya boat. for me it's without doubt the 848:upyeah:

  8. Steve, the 848 is far from a watered down 10/1198, it has totally different characteristics, in both power delivery and handling, a superbike in it's own right, go and watch the 848 Challenge and see for yourself.
My previous 08 848 had 130bhp/70lb·ft torque at the back wheel. Corse Evo SE not been on the dyno yet, but sure Bradders has some figures for you:biggrin:

  9. Ar..dyno...who believes them?!

CJS mapped mine, 60 plate evo, started 131 with a DP flash, ended 139 custom mapped. Torq from memory 72-3 ish...but the map brings power and torq in earlier and holds flatter

I know a few who have had 1098 and 848 and they all says the 848 rides differently, easier and sharper handling. Engine position, weight and trail...or something else I dont understand ...are different

Steve you're welcome to try mine if I can have a go on one of your old bricks :upyeah:

  10. Can the standard ecu be custom mapped ?

Yes John, mine was. There are a few places who do it, I went to CJS as Chris' reputation was so good. Can even make our own welcome message if you really want, eh Dementor ;-) Mine just says DP

  12. oh dear oh dear oh dear...

  13. ...predicability is a trait I like in peolpe...

  14. well the engine is in the same position as most ducatis back to 1994, the trail is also the same as the other earlier models although its made to look better because of the low std ride height, jack the back end up and it gets worse,
    and the weight..................

  15. There is a correlation, I was told, between the placement and weight of the engine in the 848 which differs ever so slightly from the larger models and thus affects how the handling feels...the rest was just for yours or FE benefit :upyeah:

  16. hmmmmmmm, a bit of rollocks i recon. I mean what has moved or is in a different place? The crankcase engine mounts are in the same place the gearbox internals are the same, pistons rods crank all in the same place...heads same as the others albeit a more modern evo head.......

you have been spun a yarn........

  17. Dunno, but Ducati mechanic and builder who said it. Not that the mounts are n different place more the weight bias of how the engine 'is' is different, but you know me, I know feck all so heh probably shite, just ride em slowly and poorly and less than I'd like

  18. New sales figures released seem to suggest that it sold better than people think . There was a lot more to poor bike sales than just the introduction of the 9 series bike sales in general were down 18% in 2003 . 19. My T9 looking fit as feck and behaving impeccably at Anglesey. Anyway I can stop this argument in on small simple sentence. .... Justin Bieber has an 848
