  1. i like the o/night ferry, get off the boat at 8am in france and got all day ahead, done it a few times now and find it easier imho, we'll watch this thread and see where it goes!

  2. It's going to France. Are you deaf?

  3. Did Normandy one year, suburb roads and not a massive ride to get there either

  4. not going then :)

  5. I'm up for anywhere to be honest, just want to be sure I can afford it first (money's very tight at the mo). Might give the Guzzi a blast, they like big rides:upyeah:

  6. I'm liking where this threads going

  7. I will be in the Pyrenees around that time

  8. Fig if the missus doesn't go we can share...

  9. Err...whereabouts in the Pyrennees drdave..?

  10. Vielle-Adour, a working village at the foot of the Pyrénées mountains. It lies in the Gascony district, which is home to Lourdes, Pau, Bagnéres de Bigorre and Tarbes.
Going to be here for 4 days after arriving in Bilbao then going up to tarn gorge millau etc then maybe head towards French alps before coming back via Chunnel

  11. Soooo, count me in on what ever plans go ahead if that's ok?

I'm a contractor so I can get time off real easy.

I'm off to Spain for the GP with a bunch of mates on our bikes in either May or September. Yet to decide on which race to go to.

Other than that, the only other trip I have planned is for my self and my misses going to Wales at the end of Feb.

Personally, I want to see mountains! HUGE mountains. Riding the windy roads of mountains, any tips on where I can get that?

  12. Pyrenees, fanbloodytastic for bikers! Plymouth-Santander ferry. Other option, France, Poole-Cherbourg, around 4 hours I believe.

  13. The Alps are the highest mountains in Europe so you might want that corner of France, Southern Germany, Austria, Switzerland or the very north of Italy. You can't miss them, really. I can get a great view of the Alps from the next village on the ridge.

  14. did that region last year - a-flipping-mazing, especially The Stelvio Pass! Plus we got to do the B500 Baden Baden through the Black Forest on the way down, great trip. Apart from midget Italian toll booth fascists.

  15. The Selvio has acquired mythical status, and it's a pretty amazing pass. But it is no more amazing than a lot of other passes, really, and there is no need to go out of your way in order to ride it, if you are not already in the vicinity. I'm a particular fan of the Splügen, but if you go to Andermatt, you can do the Furka, the Grimsel, the Susten, the Oberalp and the St. Gottard in an afternoon, which is a much better use of your time. If you do the St-Gottard, try to do the old pass which kicks off with a paved, cobbled section (from memory). Most of the traffic will be doing the new one. Actually most of the traffic will be doing the tunnel. Don't do that on any account - it is very long, uninteresting and the fumes will kill you on a bike.

  16. Thanks for that. I hadn't realised there was a choice of two St Gottard pass roads, but now that I've looked more closely at the map, I see you are right. Must try the old one sometime. Isn't it "Défense de fumer"?

  17. How much time roughly would you need for me to go from Calais, do the alps, then come back?

Roughly, is 2 weeks enough time?

  18. Or try the Hotel Noss in Cochem, or the Hotel Zur Post in nearby Klotten. I have found both to be very biker-friendly:
HOTEL KARL NOSS | Ihr Hotel in Cochem | ONLINE BUCHEN
    HOTEL ZUR POST - Mosel/Germany
