Sorry to hear of your woes I can understand your frustration - you'd think your situation was simple!............Ducati Assist/AA use Interweb/phone to track down nearest tyre fitter with replacement tyre and then make arrangements to get you there....simples? :frown: Good luck, keep us posted on how you get on/what happens. Im off to europe in sept for the first time and I was thinking the Ducati assist, which came when I purchased the bike, would cover me. Reading the posts I find myself going in to window licker mode and worrying if I should take up additional cover????????????? Twenty years ago I would not of given a sh*t and packed my Y fronts + toothbrush in a tescos carry bag and done one!!!!!
Well I'm home at last. Thanks to a decent lad at the call centre, another one at the recovery garage and an awesome mechanic at Ducati Metz who worked through his lunch break to fit the tyre and get me on my way as soon as possible. Since it was a normal working day and both I and the lad at the recovery garage got on the blower at 9am to track down a tyre, then it worked well. Basically the guys at the AA would have done anything to shut me up and so agreed to take me wherever I wanted to get the tyre fitted. Which wasn't their attitude originally. So, a good result in the end, even if it took a stupidly long time to get a simple problem sorted. Fundamentally, all these guys do is use google and a credit card to organise stuff, there is nothing else behind it, we're certainly not talking about having dedicated patrols as we're used to in the UK. If you accept it for that, then you'll be OK, but I expected more. More fool me!
Other than Germany noneof the countries have 'patrols' its 90% agents of some kind, and for bikes its worse than cars for coverage Glad it got sorted in the end, UK epectations are not to be taken past the tunnel :smile:
You'd think after 15 years of operating into virtually every airport in Europe, I'd be used to the "cultural differences" by now!
Just reading this in a hotel in Bastogne and thought that my Ducati card had me sorted. By the time I get back Friday, I will have done 4,000 miles and been as far South as Split (1,500 miles from home) and as far East as Krakow (1,200 miles from home). Just getting understood in those places is hard enough, but I do carry the rear wheel nut with the hope that a local bike tyre shop has a chance of getting the wheel off? It would be nice if they fitted 4 studs to the rear wheel as with the GS, then you can get it off yourself and take it by taxi? On that front (comparing to a GS), a shaft drive would be good - BUT, once off the motorway, the GS just doesn't deliver the thrills does it? On the basis of the recovery costs quoted earlier though, I will certainly be looking for my own breakdown/recovery insurance in future and one with a guaranteed English speaking service. Just got to keep my fingers crossed now until Friday!
