I nod at everyone even though I ride a Beemer now. I remember how it used to feel when the occasional proper biker nodded to me when I was a 16 year old on an RD50.
Remind me to reverse my two fingered salute when riding through Lyon on my GSA I always do the V sign, palm out in France and the foot out when drivers move over to let me through. Harley riders actually acknowledge in France. Usually do a belly wobble with a flick of the beard or a lift of their 26 inch inside leg. Rarely seen solo normally mouthing the words to some Johnny Halliday song (who?) Can’t miss them with all that reflection from the chrome.
If it's a pack leg out & a good long foot wave, proper european traveller etiquette. Nod sideways for bikers & sometimes blitz main-beam on off & then fog-light on off back to full-beam on off dance!
I nod. Automatically, but wonder how the hell they could tell? I figure on the 999 I'm on about the only bike they could even tell what I'm on, given the microsecond I'm in their field of vision.
I don't pull over because I don't want to fling whatever is in the gutter at the rider I just let the rider do what's best for them Like I would over take when comfortable to do so.
Something I learned as a DR: hatched areas and gutters are where they sweep small stuff fallen from lorries - like nails - and glass from crashes.
Agreed but I always like to give an indication I know they are behind me and give a little more space if they want to use it. On my commute on a busy A road 10 mph queue I'm always surprised how many cars/vans etc do the same & I always give 'em a thumbs up, or in the hot weather a shouted thank you through an open window.
If I'm in slow moving traffic yes I move over and leave a big space in front of me I always get a low hand wave I have usually acknowledge a rider as he approaches me checking in my mirror I do that little nod so they know I know
I do too, especially when I was commuting purely to ease the boredom lol. Just saying there’s a whole host of reasons why someone might not nod and none of them are likely because they’re being deliberately rude to you (or not often anyway!).
If only i'd a £1.00 for everytime i've nodded or waved over the past three decades, also landrover defender owners have the same bloody problem, well almost all the drivers......they just love waving at me for some odd reason.
Got onto the road in 1990s and bought a kmx125 off a guy who you'd probably describe as a local 'character'. Wasn't till I ventured well off the Manor that it actually dawned on me other bikers where waving/nodding at me on bike, not previous owner. I nod at everybody, even horse riders...especially the fit ones.
I nod at everybody. I try to thank everyone who moves for me, but sometimes its not possible as I need both my hands at the time. Especially when filtering.
Yeah, that can be tricky especially if you want to clutch in or hit a cat's eye & get one of those 3mph 'wobbles' on... what I try to do is move me head to the inside and give a pronounced single nod.
I lift my leg instead if I can. I hate filtering on M25. There are some schmucks on there. 99% are cool and move for you. 1% move to block. No idea why, just assholes. I'm a slow filterer and move over for bikes behind. (Once I see you, I'm concentrating 100% forwards, please bear with me) I once moved for a GSX1300. 20 secs later and passenger in a car decided to fling door open. Bang. Guy was okay, his bike was banged about a bit and the door was now a suicide door. I now filter with full beam and indicators on hazard.
Yes why do drivers do that in very slow moving traffic I noticed that when I filtered down the M5 I was a slow filter I would kept my feet down because drivers would block the lane It's like they hate bikes getting to the front before them Majority as you say really nice moving over
When I first started riding a lot of car drivers would move to block you filtering now it’s very rare it happens but occasionally it still does. I also nod to everyone even cars who giveway to me / let me out of junctions.
