Advice On Increasing M600 Performance!

Discussion in 'Monster' started by Benvstheworld, Oct 11, 2015.

  1. Probably around £500 if he has to get the kit installed and set up by someone else.

That's a good chunk towards a 900 bike on top the value of his 600

  2. Yeah, but surely the OP only just got his M600... let him enjoy that first and grow into it, out of it and into something bigger when he's ready / fancies it.

All the tuning in the world ain't going to benefit the OP if he actually needs a belts service, valve clearances, a chain and sprockets and his binding brakes sorting out... a jet kit and an exhaust won't cure bent valves... :p

  3. with 600's at what 1200-1500 and 900's double that? anyhu as i said or was tryin to it aint all about resale or sense is it? otherwise why upgrade a 748 when for less money you cld get a 998 with morey booty or why an 848 when for thousands spent you cld get a 1299... end of the day he asked bout upgrades for the 600 not where to buy a 900 or whatever:D

  4. Yep, and we don't listen to sensible advice. For us not to listen it needs saying, so we have :p

  5. Yeah I got that - I was saying basically "it's not worth it" and "put the money you'd waste on bits towards a bigger bike if/when the times comes".

Don't get me wrong - I've spent out on almost every bike trying to 'improve' it but I think twice about that now unless building a special.

Of course if he's doing it for a laugh or the experience of undoing two silencer nuts etc then why not of course - but we gotta tell the guy that any gains he gets will be fairly minimal in reality.

Might as well just bung a one-tooth-smaller front sprocket on there if he wants to pep it up for about 20 quid.

  6. i agree ish:)

  7. wife has a 600 monster and has owned it for around 10 years
have fitted aftermarket exhaust and dynojet, cut off top of airbox

to get any more power than the above you will have to spend a disproportionate amount of money

bike runs sweet but if you want anymore power the 750 is the motor to go for , runs smoother than a 900

as for pipes, ebay has a huge selection and the cans interchange between 600 / 750 / 900

powerwise the power difference between one brand of freeflowing aftermarket pipe and another is largely down to ego and bench racers, local dyno shop has all the data on dyno and difference between one brand another is less than 1 or 2 hp and more down to condition of bike than anything else

monster owners forum is excellent source of info for monsters

  8. Which is the point I was making, albeit exaggerated :)

  9. Sorry but I don't agree with this part - I've got a 750 here atm and was very surprised how much less power and torque it has over the 900 (and bigger) motors, and the torque it does have (if you can call it that) occurs much higher up the rev range too.

You're right that it is much smoother than the 900s but that's because it runs very tame camshafts and a wet clutch.

I doubt he'd notice much of an improvement going from a 600 to a 750 tbh, and certainly not enough to justify the cost/hassle.

  10. Chizel exactly. Add a filter and you have a 20% increase.

  11. yeah that El Tel.. what is 'e like? - and first post to a new member too.. he ain't gonna make mod grade anytime soon with that approach.. and chief mod?? -pfffft forget it

  13. Hey guys massive thanks for the replies.

As far as the machine goes I actually got incredibly lucky with this. I bought it off a very good friends mother for only £800 with a messily 6000 miles on the clock and had it serviced by a friend who specializes in Ducati monsters so it's had new pads, plugs , filter , full check and drain of all liquid.

It runs absolutely beautifully and it's something I will probably keep for sentimental reasons.

Saying that though if I crave power I could always upgrade and flip it for more than I paid. However I absolutely love the monster aesthetic and feel im not fussed on it being a speed demon. I just fancy it sounding nice, turning the odd head and having s tonne of bottom end.

  14. I did well for £800. Spent £200 on parts and £200 on labour.

From what I've found it seems a dyno kit is about 90 quid a knm filter 45.

Cans seem to go from 200-500.

  17. £800.00 is a good price for what you got there! i'd say you could afford to throw a couple of quid at it to do the mods you've mentioned and probably not be a great deal out of pocket should you chose to sell in the future. It aint all about resale i spent about 4 times my bikes value to get it (nearly) how i want it! do what makes ya smile thats all life is about anyway. enjoy :upyeah:

  18. That's £1200 already not £800 eh.

  19. if it is parts and labor for routine maintenance or peace of mind stuff ya cant really count it can ya? would be nice to by a 2nd hand motor that has had every thing done but even at £1200-1500 (which would be about the money for what hes got?) it would be unlikely

  20. True mate, true.
