Airbag Equipped Jackets

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by J biker, Nov 17, 2022.

  1. I've been using the Ixon air vest for both road and track for the last 3 years, fortunate enough not to have activated it, once on, you don't even notice it's there, toured Croatia with it earlier this year wearing a mesh jacket and airflow was fine as long as you were moving, anything that gives a better chance of protecting my vital organs in the event of an accident has got to be worth using imo.
A touring friend of mine uses a Helite tethered vest, he now untethers himself before any tight U turn manoeuvres as it was getting very expensive constantly replacing the canisters :sob:.

  2. I've had a d-air for about three years. I use it for daily commuting. It's a beautifully made jacket and feels really robust. It went back to dainese once for repair after something stopped working and came back absolutely as new no charge. It broke again a few weeks back. I was told to take it to dainese Manchester, who couldn't have been more helpful, sent it off for repair at £75, but the repairs team down south forgot to repair the inner zip so I've to take it back.
I've not regretted it for a second though. It's been great. Feels really strong and secure, and you can wear it over a t-shirt or over winter warm kit.

  3. I'd add that I greatly prefer a jacket with everything in rather than a separate vest, I just like the grab and go for commuting.
It's also pretty shower proof, though I wear a goretex shell on top if it's lashing.
I just gave my £1k rukka to my brother as I can't see I'll ever wear it again tbh.

  4. :upyeah: There’s much to be said for an airbag-integrated jacket (grab-and-go, less hassle, the jacket’s designed for the job).

Which Dainese jacket have you got?

  5. I have the Furygan Fury vest and have brought various jackets to wear with it as their jackets come with internal zips to connect the vest to making it more convenient.

I'll get a suit next year too for when I take to the track and then alter the subscription to include the track settings.

  6. It’s not getting cheaper from Ducati, now £720 :scream: The issue with that particular Dainese product for me, is it’s a one shot bag so the bag and initiator has to be replaced every time it’s functioned at £220. Andy

  7. fair enough but as I'm just using on the road and not the track i figured that replacing those bits in the event of an 'off' is the last thing i will be worrying about

  8. Exactly. The Dainese kit seems to tick a lot of boxes for road use, something like this:https://www.moto-axxe.fr/produit/da...VwEYrcyZDLqfQdi7DAyhZlLWN1b_6gaQaAlBaEALw_wcB
For trackdays, maybe the Alpinestars job, that fits under leathers makes more sense, as it is a lot more likely to be activated more than once!

  9. DAir leather. Don't know the exact model. Was expensive but worth it.
Sorry, just checked, it's the d air misano

  10. I'd add that I've just googled and it's 40% off on sportbikeshop just now.

  11. I’ve had a tech Air for the past 6 months, it’s comfortable, well vented with no issues to report… HOWEVER, whilst visiting a local hospital that specialises in heart and lung patients, I removed the jacket and placed the jacket on a seat, went to walk away and seconds later the device went bang and inflated!!! The jacket was not dropped or fell to the floor, thank ***k I was not wearing it!!!! Not impressed and hoping the dealer will assist me with Alpinestars!!

  12. They were £499:00 at Infinity Motorcycles, how can they reduce the price by £1000 !

  13. I'd nearly buy a spare at that price.

  14. The Alpinestars Tech-Air Race and Street vests each have 12 sensors. As far as I’m aware, they’re trouble-free.

However, the (cheaper) Tech-Air 5 vest has only 6 sensors. And I’ve read numerous reports of problems with unexplained deployments.

  15. My Tech Air 5 had been worn a lot over the last year. No problems so far:p

  16. If you can get the dair misano for £500 I'd bite their hand off. Really lovely jacket. I thought it good value at £1000. Versatile too. I wear a hoodie and a gilet under it in the winter, and a coat over the top of it's wet, and just a t-shirt in the summer. It feels really secure. Any of my other jackets just feel flimsy by comparison, and they're all pretty good. I felt completely naked going back to the rukka armaxion, so much so I gave it away.

  17. D-Air Misano is 899.00 at sportsbike shop (black and white version only). Infinity advertise at 499.99 however no sizes/colours available at this price? If someone can post a link I'll buy it!

  18. I need a new suit and am looking at Tech Air 5, for primarily track only use, but potentially could wear during commute.

3 triax accels in the Race compared with 1 triax accel in the TA5. The gyros and single triax will measure motion in the 6 DOFs (since the unit is mostly rigid) so the extra 2 triax in the Race likely serves as redundancy checks on the gyro velocities. All things being equal it's a downgrade to have one triax, but they possibly used sensors with improved sensitivities compared to the Race. If the unit isn't rigid then measuring accel at multiple areas would be advantageous.

    Just speculation of course.

  19. I just bought a TechAir 5 for track use. My old suit wouldn't fit it so I also tried on a few 1 pieces. As expected it is a pain the ass to get on. I didn't do the recommended tuck it into the suit and put both on together, so I'll have to try that.

Tried on a A* Fusion which is a nice piece, appears to flow a lot of air and has good shoulder mobility. The fit was way off unfortunately, so I had to let that one go. The Spidi Track Wind Pro actually fit really well with enough room for airbag expansion, but still solid race fit everywhere, and would need broken in. Will probably go with that.
