Much greater manifold pressure - a two stage supercharge, and aftercooler to cool the intercoolers - and 130/150 octane fuel that could cope with the higher boost pressure. Also with a two stage blower they could optimize the Rolls Royce motor's performance for different altitudes. Escorting bombers in Europa at 25,000 feet by which time the 109 had run out of puff and was at a serious disadvantage.

you must have been minted then! - payload was just over 11,000 kg i've just read, but can't find free pictures of vehicle(s) being loaded but it was possible and certainly military version utilised for this at times. more likly a Bristol 170 or similar?

Thanks, I did watch it although difficult with his voice. PaperMache auxiliary tank gave it the range pre D-Day to fly to Berlin and back.
One of my prized possessions as a kid was the 1:24 scale model Stuka that I saved up for, built and painted. It was the biggest model plane I owned and was about half a metre long. The Horton Ho-229 was another childhood fave.
Some great shots - we have quite allot of the RAF practice dog fights about our house, so much so the ground shakes but I need a better camera to keep up with these Sadly most I can add at moment is quite a few pics of the underside of a Cessna caravan but after seeing these probably a bit dull to anyone else
