Prior to the first Gulf War Raf Mildenhall held annual airshows. The B2 displayed at one of the last to be held it also appeared at Waddington the same year. I have a video of it somewhere
Excellent thread. Here's one of the best hours of my life from a 2009 trip to Florida & a couple of pics of the TF51/P51 in formation with some USAF birds. I'm not a pilot, but have flown every small sized heavier than air aircraft type, Biplane, multiple mono planes including this one Gliders, a Helicopter, a Jet, AutoGyro, Microlight, Hang Glider & a Para Glider. Only thing I'm missing is a float plane, but I have flown in one. Here you can see the 2 seat trainer built after the war from a returned war bird, bigger canopy & increased tail height because of the canopy. An amazing thing to fly. A collection of Americas Best over the last 85 years. Before the flight in the hangar, gives you an idea of the size of these things. The difference between the P51B/C Model top & the TF51 (P51D) below. I've always liked the look of the older model.
Many moons ago I went to Fire Power Demo & the yanks sent five A10's to tear up the hill side. The plane slows due to the recoil & they were whirling around so low, popping flares that we spent to rest of the afternoon wondering around a live fire range putting out the fires caused by the flares still burning when they landed, that's how low they were. Awesome day that was.
It appears you’ve hooked a live one Four 2 Five, in the best tradition of all the splendid chaps at RAF Luton.
In my early teens my family had a caravan pitched at Burton Constable. The A10s regularly flew over on their low approach to the live fire range at RAF Cowden. The sound of the ‘Gatling gun’ was awesome.
true? The Tornado F3 can reach a top speed of 8008.5mph by using its afterburners. The increase in power comes from adding cement powder with the fuel before superheating it to over 717.5°. An F3 carries 8 bags of cement at all times
I'll take your Trislander and raise you a Shorts 360 Flying Shed. Less complimentary names also available....
I wouldn’t be surprised about the cement bags thing, though. Tornado: super fast in low level, big enough to carry a decent payload, so, good for attack, but never designed to be a fighter. Power to weight ratio was to low… Heavy sucker, just like the Phantom. And so shitty to fly (not me saying, but our Tornado F3 RAF exchange officers) that even for air to air, they needed a front sitter to fly the bugger and a rear to do radar and counter measures. Just like the Tomcat. Good grief…
We thought that was brilliant, after being used to Islanders and Trilanders ! There were two isles of seats and a stewardess
