I will never forget seeing one three cars up in a scrapyard in North London, yes they had corrosion problems but I couldn't believe my eyes even back then. I was there looking to buy some rare magnesium alloys for a rival manufacturer but turned out to be a false lead.
My dad had one of these for a couple of years in the 80s but he wrote it off when a van stopped suddenly in front of him and he hit the accelerator rather than the brake due to the cramped pedal box
i've had a couple. or rather the same one twice. a silver 156 facelift 2400 20v. awesome car. tho i think the older 10v is quicker. i still have a 2004 coming in for servicing. not particularly well looked after. but solid enough. i need a small car. i was psyched up for replacing my beloved for a mito abarth but the MRs fiat dober developed one too many idiosyncrasies for her to use and had to get the new van first. so, i now have a dober instead. maybe next year.
I had an Alfa sud 1.5 ti in the mid nineties, handled like a dream, but the gear box was a bit of pot luck, I suspect it’s dissolved by now, then in around 2014 I bought a 159 estate that had to go when every month was another £200 to keep it rolling. I’d still love another Alfa, I suggested to my Director that as the company is headquartered in Milan we should all drive Guilias. He disagreed. With some interesting words.
