Not looking for sympathy, she’s annoyed with herself really for missing the drop from 40-30mph, or it could just be because it’s a Saturday today or the squirrels nicking the bird food again or because I accidentally deleted Celebrity Gogglebox the other day-who knows?
Up to and including 75 in a 60 would be a speed awareness course. If your friend is estimating his speed on his Speedo, hopefully it overestimates. Over 75 will be 3 points and a Band A Fine (25% to 75% weekly income).
‘My friend’ saw 78 on the speedo just as ‘he’ saw the van. ‘He’ isn’t bitching about being ‘done’, yes, the road is massively wide, yes it was dry and traffic light. Nobody was endangered and I’m guessing the van would have better been employed outside a school or somewhere similar. However it was a national speed limit road and ‘he’ knows the limit there. Equally ‘he’ knows it’s a favourite place for Plod to hang out and should know better - in fact ‘he’ does know better. He had a daft moment... The camera was, ‘he’ says, on a bridge at the end of a straight that’s 0.7 mile l long and ‘he’ still had a couple of cars in front of ‘him’ travelling in the same direction when spotting the van and braking to the speed limit. Do the cameras have laser sights and sniper trained operators??
doesn’t the banding only count if it’s seen in court? I think my friend is hoping for a fixed penalty?
Apart from the small matter of having no evidence that would be admissible in court... I am already doomed. I've got the Chinese listening in on my phone and activating the camera as well as the Police listening in here and wetting themselves when they hear about somebody hitting 150 in a 40! I'm doomed!!! Fraser: "We're dooooomed! Doomed, I tell you!"
Daughter (only 18, passed test in Feb) has an online speed awareness course in three weeks time, by zoom apparently. Not a great start, had a small prang 2 weeks in too
No, not a great start. Some guidance on turning a small prang into a big one is required. I may be able to help out here.... I've got form in writing off cars, if that is any help...
I was given a speed awareness course for 80 in a 60, on a West Sussex dual carriageway. Treatment may be different for single carriageways, for different jurisdictions, it may depend on what someone had for breakfast the day the decision is made or there may be factors we can only speculate on, eg number of previous offences, etc.
i was given a speed awareness course for doing 35 in a 30 but let off for doing 145 on the a23... its all in the way you hold your mouth....
Sounds good to have been offered a speed awareness course, isn't it 6 points and a ban for newly qualified drivers?
Maybe 7 years since my “speed awareness” course. The one benefit is that it makes you much more aware of the actual speed limit. This may sound silly, but many places have a speed limits that jumps around wildly, between 30, 40, 50 and 60 mph. Sections of road where it is a higher limit for a few hundred yards. Crazy. But this is what we are faced with. Add in draconian reductions in limit (supposedly due to previous accidents...) and the sudden appearance of scameras...just got to be careful. Usually well placed on a downhill where you have to work hard not to creep over the limit. When given the choice of a course or points, it really is a no brainer. Also, compare actual speed on the sat nav with indicated speed. A true 35 mph is probably 37 mph indicated. Likewise 78 true...80 ish indicated. You are well over at that. I “try” to stick to urban limits, but sometimes realise I am outside of the correct zone...all too easy.
Wife was on an urban dual carriageway signed at 50, then at 40. It then drops to 30 & the sign is there if you know where to look but to be fair to her, it’s the same road & definitely easy to miss. The speed awareness course I took once reminds you about street lamps & residential areas as indicators etc so hopefully it’ll help. As I say, personally I think an £87cost, no points & no insurance increase is a huge result
Not sure where I read it but some insurers are asking if you've been on a SA course, not sure how they prove you have should you not disclose it on a proposal form.
its all on computer record.... and if they ask and you deliberatley lie then it has the potential to void the insurance
So it is 6 points and a ban as apposed to 12 ... in the first two years..So 1 no insurance, or two 3 point speeds etc etc
If i could be arsed there should be a sticky that has ALL the informed proper information rather than rumour and conjecture...
Yep, I don't leave anything out on a proposal having used all the features on a policy years back. A very costly Solicitors and Barristers fees were paid for by my insurers it really isn't worth not disclosing everything in my opinion.
I believe so but as I'm not in that age group I haven't looked it up for a good while. Could even be 2 illegal tyres or any variable, bald tyre and a speeding in one stop would be a real bummer so to speak. Ok so just asked my Daughter and yes 6 points and a ban, the test is longer for your second run too she is lead to believe.
