The house insuance does sound excessive. I had a hike in mine this year, when I queried it, I was told I live in a flood risk area. I live at the top of a hill There was a freak storm about 18 months ago, hollywood movie stuff with thunder, lightning and clouds as black as coal. The downpur was like nothing I've ever seen (I had to close the air vents on the top of the windows as it was getting in) and the drains at the bottom of the street couldn't cope. 3 houses were flooded at the lowest point on the estate. All I suffered was a slight damp patch for 6" under the garage door. Now because I share a post code, I live in a flood risk area, at the top of a hill, 2 miles away from the nearest river and 5 miles from the coast. Anyway, I shopped around and think I pay £220 for buildings and contents with AXA.
