  1. C'mon! Pay attention!

  2. Decision made (until tomorrow)

When/if I get my driving license back and when I get some comp, I gonna get this - no more thinking, for a decision has been made - 17" wheels and I know that I can get panniers, so I'll be able to tour. Should do a good 150 miles between fill-ups - the tank is not huge (16 litres) but not a major issue.

It appeals because the KTM and Guzzi rankle with all this "adventure" crap. I have zero desire to take a nearly 16 grand bike off-road. Where is the fun? I'd just be thinking, "owwwwwwwwwwwww, I hope I don't drop the fecking thing"! Maybe if your a journo riding someone else's bike where if/when you drop it it, then you just abandon it and get a taxi to the nearest train station, then it works for you. But it doesn't for me!

  3. Fing is. If I buy this with the factory panniers fitted, then I can pick it up and go touring on it next day. Exactly what I want. By the time that I'm better, then the pandemic MUST be over, so first trip is to the IOM if I can get accommodation that may be more difficult if the there is the TT or Manx on. But no problem as I'll just go to Ireland instead. Or Wales, or Scotland, or Norway, or Poland, or Spain, or .., or ..., or, etc, etc, etc

  4. AppleTV has got all of the hated "Long Way" series and as I'm back i the World of Pain again from my cheek (fecking up my left leg with steel pins inserted, a replacement hip, dislocating both shoulders and and elbow (as well as breaking it - no problem) so back to no sleep, feeling tired all day AND watching "Long Way Down", where they visit the Guzzi factory.

Got me thinking - I've never owned a Guzzi, but should, as I love Italian bikes.

Soooooooooooo..... (contain your excitement) the choice is between a Ducati Supersport S and the Moto Guzzi TT Travel. Not bothered about top speed because I just want an easy life touring - as far as Poland and all on tarmac roads with absolutely no off-road crap. There isn't a fortune of money between them but by the time that I add luggage carrying to the Ducati, then it's gonna be about £3k more - and the Guzzi is shaft drive and very, very simple maintenance (mainly coz it's very of old-school 2 valve per cylinder without desmo, so only really fluid changes) whereas the Ducti engine is better. So it really comes down to shaft drive v. better engine, but less range - roughly 150 v. 250.

Given that I won't take any notice: wot would you pick? And why.

  5. No opinions?

Ducati Supersport S and the Moto Guzzi TT Travel

  6. No contest SS

  7. With a 20 litre fuel tank, the Multi 950 S beats the SuperSport S, so my choice will be Ducati Multistrada 950s v Guzzi V85 TT Travel. When fit and driving license restored, I'll test ride both (hopefully back to back) and make the decision.

  8. Guzzi is 100 year next year and they come with... nothing! A new Lemans or Norge and they have me hanging at the factory door.

  9. Everything seems to be on the V85. I think that Guzzi are too skint to develop anything more.

  10. Seems like that.

  11. Hi Perry, good to see you are still excited at the prospect of returning to two wheels.

But as its coming up to midnight I was wondering

    t
    Whats it going to be?

  12. On Christmas Eve, I had one of my terrible nights where I spent most of the night awake, in pain from my cheek, and unable to sleep. For about three nights before that and ever since, I have slept well, for about 9 hours solid but this has made me in absolutely no rush to go to bed. I really don't look forward to it!

Before I buy anything, I'll get my ST2 and ST3 back on the road and have at least one mini tour on one - and may even do my IAM again to prove to my family that I know what I'm doing.

I think that I would try to avoid riding in darkness, in future, though. I think that there was a good chance that the prison officer bitch was on her 'phone. I was riding my Monster with headlights on (you can't switch them off) and an Akrapovic exhaust, at around about the 40 mph speed limit (confirmed by Police from the skid marks - on the road, I presume because I never got my shreddies back!). As there where no witnesses, no one can be exact about the time of the accident, so even though the Police got her 'phone records, they couldn't prove anything. She did plead guilty to a driving without due care, so she must of been feeling guilty. How can you not hear a S4r Monster with an Akra exhaust?

  13. Did she ever have a hearing test?

Glad you are sleeping better, I've had some sleepless Xmas eves too , but that was a longtime ago now...

  14. pardon?

  15. If the woman didn't hear you coming on an S4r with loud pipes, she should have had a hearing test!

  16. Backup options (if I find the Ducati or Guzzi too heavy) is KTM
    upload_2020-12-27_18-27-11.png
    or BMW F900 R
    upload_2020-12-27_18-29-24.png

  17. I can't swear to the accuracy (Google search) but it seems the wieghts are much the same save for the Guzzi. The Ducati being the lightest?

    Ducati Multistrada 950s 207kg

    KTM 790 209kg

    BMW F900R 211kg

    Guzzi V85 TT 229 kg

  18. Really? I'll look again but I just expected the KTM to be light.

  19. Still need to do more investigation but I get the KTM at 189 and the Ducati 204 - both dry in kg, which is roughly what I would expect.

I think that the real test is how they carry that weight, which is why I need to do test rides.

    I'll start a spreadsheet!

  20. Here you are, a review and specs from Bennetts who gave the 209kg weight. I hope it helps.

    Edit.
Interestingly when you look at Bennetts review & specs for the 950s, the weight is 230kg.

Useful to use the same source for the info as they will have measured both bikes under the same conditions (probably).

    But overall you were right!
