Americans?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by El Toro, Jan 23, 2013.

  1. I've always found American 'customer service' to be nothing more than epic empty arse kissing. No actual customer service actually happens. I have friends in the us, and have been there several times. There are some things that are good, but the general impression is of an ignorant, selfish and renegade country with little grasp of reality.

  2. I just find that, in the circles I am moving in, that they are all, without exception, trying to steal ideas/IP/products/services/hard graft, in an effort to "flip" them and make huge sums of money without actually putting any effort in at all.

The US authorities made the Ponzi scheme illegal (Ponzi scheme - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia), yet they all try to re-invent it in one way, shape or other form. The amount of energy they use in doing so is beyond belief.

And they look at us Brits as just their niave, dumbass cousins from across the water.

  3. Now that definately is just you they're looking at......

  4. Thats right, the Americans initially 'imported, free of charge' a vast number of other cultures, after attempting to wipe out the original inhabitants of the country.

  5. America. A nation that longs for heritage and travels the globe looking at others that have it. A nation that think it has the right to police the world and ends up cracking a nut with a sledge hammer. A nation that thinks it has a god given right to all the worlds natural resource. However the one thing they have in bucket loads is patriotism which is a powerful force

  6. No, that was actually us Brits, the French, Spanish and the Dutch. "Americans" didn't actually exist for some time until the colonialists let go of it.

  7. Most of the Americans I know and have met are decent people if a little loud. Think we have way more in common with them than our So called European cousins.

Can not imagine any of the financiers, lawyers, and developers in the city of London are any more decent.... The whole lot of them are only looking to line their own pocket; that's why the country is in the mess it's in now.

  8. What a grand scheme, to steal an entire continent (N America) from its inhabitants and exploit its resources by stealing the inhabitants of another continent (Africa), forcing them to work for nothing, and stealing all the resulting wealth! Yes, America is the richest country in the world - as a result of committing the greatest theft in all history. 'Land of the free' has always meant free to exploit, steal, murder and enslave. Americans sing their anthem so desperately out of cognitive dissonance.

  9. I've always enjoyed meeting Americans, The ones I've met have always been friendly, reliable but slightly bonkers.

America is still such a young country with massive power in the world. I like to think of them as teenagers, they're still young enough to be a little naive but big and strong enough to give you a good kicking. They haven't built up thousands of years of history (hangups) like us, so they just say it as it is sometimes.

They (quite rightly) believe in the American dream and that 'can do' attitude, and it's taken them to the moon and back. Without the Americans, we'd be a province of the German empire by now so occasionally when they need a hand we (as their mature, fuddy-duddy voice of reason) back them up.

Yes, on the face of it they sometimes seem to be self serving, inward looking rampant lunatics but that's only because we see ourselves in them, like our teenage kids, we feel like we have to tut tut from over our reading glasses at them while secretly being a little envious of what they have.

    Just my 2p worth :upyeah:

  10. Pete, you need to take some educational night classes on english history, and how they got their colonies, land, islands, countries etc...and also exploited, stole, murdered, enslaved just like the americans

  11. Didn't we Brits do something similar through The Empire ? Wasn't Glasgow and Liverpool built on the profits of slavery ?

  12. Yes John, but the Americans have never given it back, or apologised, or admitted to being ashamed.

  13. I think you'll find the Native Americans were forced out by European settlers. i.e. the British, French and Dutch originally. And let's not forget our liberation of Australia from the Aboriginals and large areas of Africa, India, the middle east etc.
WE are the original empire builders, subjugating indigenous populations to build our 'Great' Britain. Unlike us, the Americans haven't claimed any territories for their own although they do like to interfere a little

  14. You seem to be saying that the United States didn't exist before it existed. Obviously it started as a series of colonies which later became the US. The grand theft I mentioned was started by Europeans and continued by the USA. It is America which is under discussion, I think. American policy has always been to pretend to be 'opposed to colonialism' whilst they proceeded to colonise the whole continent.

  15. No, I'm a healthy Loz!

<looks over at the second term, newly inaugurated President of the USA>

    You sure about that, Pete?

Look at any nation on the planet, you will see the people who murdered, exploited or enslaved the previous inhabitants. You just need to dig back in history.

I find that US businessmen are a lot like UK businessmen - out for themselves, with varying degress of integrity and willingness to screw over the "competition". Some are evil, some are honest.
As for the nation as a whole, I can think of no country's population that is worth a damn - I could care less if they all burned. People though - there's people amongst those populations, some of whom are as horrible as the next guy and some of whom are like absolute diamonds. Applies equally to every nation under the Sun

  16. were they? over what time frame are you refering to?

there is evidence that Europeans traveled into america 1000's of years ago, maybe they were forced out by the "native" americans / or conversely asimilated into the "native" populations

the term native or indigenous is usually used to justify special rights for a group of people who claim to be the original inhabitents, however usually if you dig deep enough you find that they are not always the true original inhabitants but merely those that were there when the euorpeans or whoever arrived to colonise the territory in question

  17. You are absolutely right! I believe the native Americans were settlers from what is now Russia/Mongolia/China, but then again, they were originally from Europe and before that Africa.
But if we're talking about modern Americans (from the time America became America), then there were people already living there and had been for 10,000 years. Possibly some Europeans had mixed with them (Scandinavians) but I believe it's not thought to be a great deal.

I would guess when we refer to Americans, we start from the point of their independence from Britain (Europe), but the fact is, that's just an point in time marked by a social event, nothing changed other than a declaration to self govern. They were still Europeans living in a land they decided to call America and in doing so, the previous set of immigrants (Native Americans) were marginalised and subjugated.

  18. pete, do you know why they celebrate 4th July in america ???

  19. not a strange concept, its fine to fly the flag in america you are patriototic, in england if you flew the british flag outside your house you would be called a racist
