And I'm Off.. I Really Am This Time

Discussion in 'Touring' started by chizel, May 3, 2019.

  1. Glad to see that others see "Route Barrée" signs as an opportunity for adventure:upyeah:

Keep up with the commentary, this level can only really be possible when travelling alone.

Well it was quite till a group of special needs folk turned up with their careers.
Good to see that they are allowed a pint too!
Been having a great ride again.
Am 30miles from Gueret and just booked a hotel there in the centre.

  5. Sorry, I was totally wrong. You were near a different Vezins (Vezins-de-Levezou, near Millau) than the one I was thinking of (further north, near the Loire). Apologies.

  9. This is a great thread - keep it up!

Do you have any particular route that you are following or destination in mind or are you just drifting around in France and Spain and deciding to go wherever you fancy on a day to day basis? Is there an end point and date?

I really resonate with travelling on your own - I did a Scotland tour on my own a couple of years ago and it was brilliant, stop when you want to, people spoke to you, no worries about pleasing everyone......

  10. 20190515_164515.jpg Ben is being a funny fucker...
400 mtrs up this "road" there was a deserted hotel...
In fairness to Ben, if there wasn't a fallen tree blocking the way, I could have made it back on to the main road ..
I'm now in Gueret ... just found an Irish pub... the barman is French I'm the only one in here and it's €5 for a 330ml magnets..
€8.20 for a 500ml Guinness...not even a fucken pint!!! What is with France?? I though the UK was a piss take with booze prices. .
There doesn't look to much in this town.. had a 20 min walk about and there is few bars and not a lot to see..

They best bit so far is the very cute girl at the hotel...
    And the hotel is nice..

  12. Unfortunatly there is an end date.. June 11th..
I'm not drifting, I have le mans and mugello gps to go to and see my niece In Prague...
I can go anyway I want to get there but there is a limit!!!
I don't like doing more than 300 miles a day.. closer to 200 suits me better

  17. Drink the local beer, it's usually cheaper. You're on premium 'imported' drinks, Magners & Guinness ffs in an 'Irish' bar catering for a certain homesick (or wannabe) customer.

BTW, Guinness here is €4.20 (£3.62)/pint and Magner's is €4.80 (@4.13)/500ml bottle :D, and there's a French girl behind the bar:)

The wine is a much better choice.:upyeah:

  18. If you think you have time take a detour to Oradour-sur-Glane

It’s a sobering experience but worth visiting and not far off your route
