If it's not too late I rode the Passo di Pennes https://maps.app.goo.gl/dwgmLN3wbvC1sTJa6 a few days ago. Had to wait 20 mins for some snow clearance. They were clearing snow threatening to fall into the road rather than what was originally on the road itself. A great pass with a very scenic sweeping ride down to Bolzano.
With temperature dropping, rain rarely stopping and wet weather gear about as moisture resistant as a tampon, I was starting to question whether I had made a grave mistake...
suffering from a combination of altitude sickness, hypothermia and wondering how many fingers I will have removed due to frostbite, I have thrown in the towel for the day.. I've made it to Innsbruck after a hefty 90 miles and 3.5 hours.. I've booked a hotel and managed to find a laundry mat and barbers shop 500 feet from hotel...
Always takes a while to get into the groove when riding in the wet.. Today's problem was the lack of visibility, at times it was hard to see the tail lights of the vehicle 50 feet in front... the pace was painfully slow and at that speed the vibes make my fingers go numb . It didn't rain all the way and tbh wasn't quite as cold as I'm making out but I am wet through and it takes a lot of concentration riding that shit and mine was starting to go... So park up, take care of stuff and push on tomorrow seems the smart move.. Hopefully it clears a lil...
You may want to sit tight tomorrow if you can find something interesting outside the bar as the weather doesn’t look like improving till Thursday.
How high and cold is that route? As well as having shit wet gear, I'm not well sorted for warm kit either...
Done my washing now I'm waiting for it to dry... bloody machine done me for €6 be for I put it in the one next to it and added another €4.. Obviously my phn won't call the help number...
