Sorry to lose you, every year the biking fraternity seems to shrink in the UK. Maybe you'll be back. Remember, a scooter, a £200 snotter or some ratty old piece of crap you can use off-road still means you're a biker.
Listen to the good advice. Get yourself something staid but don't quit the bikes.....! That what keeps me going from 8 am Monday to 7pm Friday!
Seems a shame to knock biking on the head completely just for a slight lack of confidence. I'd rather get something to ride slowly than have no bike at all, something less focused to sooth your frayed nerves, a bike you don't feel obliged to ride fast on. I'm thinking Royal Enfield - Seriously.
Must've been a very hard decision. Tho if its just him and no-one else he knows riding then that may account for it. I commute on mine everyday but i guess once your older and not working there's no reason as such to get out so often. Jeez, i dread that day i even consider that option of retiring my motorbike.
Surely that is a rather fine photo of the deep sump? It's the bit sticking out on the bottom is it not?

Rode a Royal Enfield in India for a few years and loved it. Makes sure its a 500 classic. World apart from my old 350.
mate...my 916 sat in the garage unridden (but loved) for 4 yrs...ive toyed with knocking it on the head several times...weather, expense with little reward, fear since my op and all the rest of it...imho, one is never too old to improve...on the 2 occasions ive been in the seat this yr, ive taken them as 'training' rides...concentrating on technique and relaxation... however, if youre hearts not really in it and you know for sure then by all means sell up and find another, more rewarding way to piss your money away. all the best and i hope you find other interests...youre always welcome here in any event as an honorary Ducatista.
