Another Bike Needed-pillion Friendly But Nothing Boring!

  1. Hi Balmy - that's just like mine ! Except for the Scorpion exhausts...
Don't see too many of them about. In fact I think yours is the only other orange/silver one I've seen...
I love mine - to be fair it doesn't get a lot of use (not as much as i would like).
My number one tip is get an upgraded battery, if it hasn't got one already. I use a Leoch battery from a jump-start pack in mine and it totally transformed the starting, it fires up like a Japanese bike now. And just for all the doubters - it has been 100% reliable since I bought it...

  2. I've got three different exhausts for it. Standard carbon, Scorpion and a set of Blue flame.
It's got an Odessy battery on it plus it's had the oil filter mod, side stand mod and loads of other stuff. Had a fortune spent on it previously.
I've now done over 1000kms on it mostly 2 up and I love it. Fantastically quirky but great.
Be nice to see yours some time. Maybe a Paignton bike night?

  7. Having tried a GSX600F, 750SS, 748BIP and a Scrambler Classic my regular pillion (female, 5'4", small build, doesn't have arms like a gibbon) prefers my '99 RRX Blade over them all (actually, the GSX600F might be on a par and is more chilled out as both rider and pillion, but the Blade has more oomph. I'm actually very fond of the GSX though, it's my Dad's bike and he's had it since new. Although they were second fiddle to the GSX-R of the day they're actually a great ride and handle OK, will pull 130mph out of the bag if asked and in black it looks pretty good too!). The only changes made were to get some of that non-slip matting and wrap the slippery pillion perch in it and to get one of those pillion handle belts... a grab rail would have done pretty much the same job but I think they look ugly on the Blade (the factory grab handle was a hit on the GSX600F).

As mentioned by others, a sports bike is always going to be a compromise... with a Blade you get a big bike feel and performance but they're kind of nimble and the older carby or 924/954 are a bigger bike and quite happy to take a pillion.

  8. Is that a Marina in the garage ?

  9. 1.8 TC

  10. Yeah. One of mine. As Exige pointed out a TC but no longer a 1.8 ;)
    It's much modified. :)
