Another Dealer Bites The Dust

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Flappytabs, Oct 21, 2024.

  1. I use the bike-parts-ducati.com website, then call my local dealer with the part number, some parts they have in stock, others they have to order

I use JHP Ducati Coventry for my parts

  2. Fellow on Facebook is worried ‘cos his bike is in there. Says it’s traded in for new model in ‘25. Dunno the financial/legal situation. Suppose it depends on whether he’s been paid the £ or …

  3. I'm not on faceache, they kept banning me, but, some things I can still see without registering

I clicked the link, then clicked the link for the black on black Pani V2.....

    £22k for a used Pani

I can get a brand new one for £17.5k

In the ad, it does say " This is a very highly Ducati accessorised bike .."

How many accessories can you fit that will make a used bike £4.5k more than a new one?

  5. Think I would be holding off from buying a motorcycle in the UK until the New Year. Got a feeling there is going to be a glut of quality machines at knockdown prices..
Got to feel sorry for those affected too. The industry seems to be in freefall.

  6. Logical result of extremely prejudicial motorcycle test for decades, combined with high priced bikes, insane insurance, low wages and old gits who are coming towards the end of their bike buying days...

  7. A dealer I spoke to was going to go solus Ducati.
He had recently spent £30k on a new dark grey tiled floor. Ducati insist it has to be black and the dark grey isn’t suitable.
Black tile dye it is then !
Also the cost of rebranding, new signs, advertising etc is at the dealers cost.
No wonder so many are going bust.
Give it 10-15 years or so and bike sales will be virtually nonexistent as kids these days aren’t interested. Sometimes when I go out I am one of the youngest there and I’m in my mid 60’s now !

  8. This is the biggest problem for the dealers…. It’s not sustainable:

My mate worked for Piaggio so I know what’s happening that leads to this, it’s the same as back in the George white days, offer the manufacturer to buy a load to get their reg numbers up then sell it for barely any margin, which trashes the brand. KTM dealers been doing it also.

it’s a race to the bottom

  9. Yeah administrators are in - saw something about a guy who cant get his bike back so not good news at all

  10. I bought my Streetfighter from Ducati Nottingham in 2022. All done remotely as I live in Bucks; I dealt with a guy called Dave Durose. No complaints whatsoever. Shame to see them go out of business, and I just hope there are opportunities around for those left without jobs.

  11. the other thing is that we don’t need dealers on our doorsteps, as long as they offer pickup services etc or it’s a ‘reasonable’ ride to them, especially if you can work from the dealer, less but bigger and better quality dealers will be fine. I do find it really sad though that specifically in Ducati’s case, the likes of Moto Rapido will get pushed out, because they aren’t ‘on brand’ like the flash Audi looking dealer that got posted on one of these threads opening soon.

that said my mate needed some proper set up done on his 748r and MR weren’t really that interested, the only person apparently who really knew how to get the best out of it was wilf and he isn’t interested in being on the tools so I believe it’s going to Luigi Moto who I hope stick around and go from strength to strength

  12. Have to say Ducati Cambridge have been excellent the few times ive used them since i moved a bit further north and Hyside sodded off to Maldon.
Small outfit, hardly any stock but well run, just 18 bikes for sale currently on the www (two of those are v2 bayliss!).
Seems a more sensible model for a bike business these days.

  13. The reluctance to take on 'project' work on the older generation bikes is more to do with the age demographic of the mechanics with the experience because they are now retiring and few and far between. The 'new' generation dealerships tend to employ technicians who use modern, plug in technology to diagnose and repair. The likes of Baines, Louigi Motors, Ducati John and the odd local specialist are fast disappearing. Andy

  14. Perhaps Ducati's corporate vision should focus a little more on supporting their products and a little less on red & white plastic showrooms that only have black tiled floors. Just an idea...

  18. Shame to see the Nottingham shop go though I'll admit I've never called in.

As far as dealers in the area, for servicing and parts then Cornerspeed is the place to go, can't recommend highly enough plus, Nelly is on here giving free advice to us all so I'd urge anyone to support him where you can.

As for sales in the area, Chris Walker in Grantham is fairly local and has a nice, new, corporate setup if that's what you like.

  19. It’s not just those dealers closing that are affected, those that remain must be hurting from all these closures too. Bikes bought speculatively (or because Ducati insisted) sitting on the showroom floor which now have to be heavily discounted (which Ducati don’t like) because there’s a host of administrators up and down the country selling off bikes at cost or less.
