Hi All, I'm sorry to report that there has been no progress on the bike since I collected it from Mark in October last year, shame on me. Unfortunately life's been getting in the way in the form of a divorce and a back-to-brick refurb of the flat I moved into, bike-tinkering has been limited to servicing the £1400 eBay ST4 I bought for a 9-day, 2200 mile blast through France a few weeks back. Unfortunately I had to sell my pride-and-joy 851... Anyhoo, last night I decided to crack on, so I wheeled the bike out of the garage and into the workshop(!) Ah, the beauty of living in a ground-floor flat with patio-doors and no women... This was supposed to be a project to use up bits I had in my parts-pile but (true to form) I've become a bit obsessed with getting it right, my problem now is hiding all the electrics from a big, faired ST in a small, naked cafe-style bike. To help out a bit I succumbed and bought a tiny battery from zero-gravity and an M-Unit from Motogadget, this thing is the size of a fag-packet and replaces all the fuses and relays on the bike apart from the starter relay. Pretty cool. The other things that are causing me a headache are the coils and the ECU, which is frankly massive. The space I have available is limited to the under-tail and the cavity under the tank where the airbox would normally live, whilst there is a bit of room here it is surprisingly small once the rear intake trumpet is in place. Aesthetics aside, I need to keep the coils as far away from the ECU and M-Unit as possible, but keep the coils as close to the motor as possible. Once I've decided where everthing is going to live I'll chop up the ST4 loom and make it fit. Hopefully there'll be some progress soon.
Newbie question : Changing a swing arm from S4R what are the benefits? (not considering visual more pleasing appearance) I'm assuming it is lighter and more sturdy (coming from R model) but what about sag - ride height adjustability?
