Another Rider Dies At The Tt

Discussion in 'Racing & Bike Sport' started by Robarano, Jun 10, 2016.

  1. I agree about a body being left in a garden completely. (Is that true though?)
The race should have been postponed, so the body could be removed at least.
People being protected from themselves reminds me of air bags and 100 BHP limits, lets face it when all this was going on in the late 80s it wasn't a good time for motorcycling in this country.
By your own statement, as motorcycling on the road is an inherently dangerous past time we shouldn't be partaking and should be "protected from ourselves". By your reasoning that would be the right thing to do?
There's been a lot fewer deaths at the TT in 100odd years than there's been motorcycling related deaths on the road.
If we have to comment on road racing, let's make it constructive is all I'm saying and that's for the sake of the sport.
I hear it every year at work, guys come to me telling me that another competitor has died, that it should be stopped, it's a tragedy, over 200 killed in 105 years etc. I expect it from non motorcycling types but not from within the community.
That's an awful lot of name dropping there Buddy, you some kind of stalker?
I went to school with Fogarty back in the day in Darwen, used to see him and that Dingle Hodgson (when they where mates and before the handbags started flying) on nights out in Darwen, never spoke to 'em because I couldn't be arsed.
Oh and my best mate used to passenger for John Holden in 1980/81 when men where men, welly rims were wider at the top and sheep were scared....

  2. I understand that its horrible for the families involved. But when people go too see an air-show, take a flight or watch an extreme event. There is an element of explosive forces involved & potential for death of the participating audience. If something goes wrong & you ain't wearing a bomb proof jacket and face shield whilst something hits you it's possibly going to maim you.

F1 circuits have horrible high fencing around the course because of wheels & bits killing tens of people over the years. The TT viewing area's & small grandstands have zero protection. I've been over there & seen it all first hand, you take your life in you're hands watching that phenomenon.

  3. I was at Rhenn Cullen when Nick Crowe flipped his outfit, not a pretty sight admittedly, that's why these Guys are supermen, it's not only their ability, it's the courage and tenacity to keep coming back after major injury, death of fellow racers etc.

  4. Bought a bike from conrads lad (not dean)Ian helped me out before people (possibly like you) had ever heard of him, jefferies bikes were there for all to see all the time...spout whatever you want I'll say what I want you don't have to agree no problem

  5. RIP all these guys,,, dreadfully scarey / dangerous business,, lets not be in denial..

  6. I think the decision about whether and where people race or not is best left to them and their families rather than some know-nothing, gossiping bum with too much time on his hands. Cannot believe it when I hear a biker talking about people needing protection from themselves. Truly the words of a fool

  7. No denial here, let's be pro-active is all I'm saying to protect the sport.
Jeez I've only been here five minutes and the shite's hitting the fan, Carl it's a forum no-ones telling you what to think or write but it's a forum so be prepared for people not to agree with you.
I'm not spouting anything, gratuitous name dropping doesn't impress me, or sway me to your way of thinking.
Say what you want, that's free speech, just think about how you say it first.
We all put our foot in our mouths now and again Buddy....

  12. Wasn't there talk of an "Isle of Wight TT" that got full government backing?

  13. My apologies Mods, If I've caused offence.....

  14. love road racing ..fact

  15. not telling what to say,, just where when to say it !!!

  16. We've been asked to leave it Matey, so leave it alone as it's not conducive forum etiquette.
That's the mods telling you by the way not me before I get accused of being a "thought policeman".

  17. It's not been a good TT for rider casualties. RIP to them all.

Every rider fatality is unacceptable and the organisers should do their utmost to prevent them all. I'm not sure it's their top priority even though it should be.

  18. Exactly. Was saying to my mate the other night its no different to the (what i perceive as) nutcases who die on everest every year. They wouldn't have it any other way.

Rip to all the riders. You have my absolute and total respect.

  19. Perhaps they should at least all wear the latest air suit thingys, what ever they are called. The Manx government could fund for the shoe string teams with an additional tax on the fans. Overall it wouldn't cost much and might save some lives...

  20. In climbing most use ropes I compare that to circuit racing, some climbers move on to the ultimate solo without ropes I compare that to road racing, when a young talented climber falls and ends up in a wheelchair watching his mates climb I'd be very surprised if a part of him didn't wish he used ropes and kept climbing in hindsight...maybe just maybe a bit more thought to the people now wiping his bottom and feeding him would have resulted in ropes? It's a complex thing all this but some people need protecting by advice or pulling out of the tunnel vision scenario ...I love climbing solo or ropes I love circuit racing and road racing...not sure what point I'm making nor am I bothered I'm just saying...life is short got to live it
