Another St4s Immoblizer Issue

Discussion in 'Sport Touring' started by mgrover, Dec 27, 2019.

  1. ignore me when I did the belts i was turning it in 6th. 1st is obviously gonna be brutal

  2. So I did the vertical cylinder cause I can't really do both at teh same time alone.

In 6th gear, with the spark plug on the ignition lead held against the frame of the bike, moving the tyre, no spark :(

Or does it have to earth against the engine?

  3. a good earth. no paint or rust

  4. ah okays ill see if I can stretch it to engine somehow

  5. Am going to do the same with the horizontal cylinder tomorrow, its dark nad cold now :p i've been operating with a head torch.

But I can't see both plugs failing at teh same time, the last time a plug died the other cylinder still ran

  6. Are you turning the rear wheel to try and see a spark? You need to crank the engine over.

  7. With the engine in gear, turning the rear wheel will turn the engine over
That's how you do a bump start.

  8. Shall I just try to bump start it? Iive on a big enough hill it'll just be a ballache when it fails :p

  9. Problem with that is getting it back up the big hill, as you say, so probably not...

  10. Young Finm suggested a method earlier that is tried and tested when it comes to eeking the best chance of a spark out of the system if sprag and/or starter motor (possibly) struggling Paul.

  11. you should be able to turn the engine fast enough by hand. and was the issue with my fugly that uses that ECU. it would crank all day at the correct speed. just no spark. it took a fair bit of diagnosing to confirm. I aint the type to just fire bits on to diagnose.

  13. Yeah but surely you won’t be able to see a spark at a plug that way, will you?

  14. Post #13. I never knew you’d be able to see a spark that way, it occurring so quickly. I live & learn :upyeah:

  15. I noticed this last week , but forgot to ask you ....

Is it the bike's regulator that's at risk of damage , if you've jump from a car
    with a running engine ?
I've done it in the past when I've urgently needed external battery power
for more than a few minutes , but not wanted to drain the car battery .
I've always taken the precaution of first disconnecting the plug to the bike's regulator .

Your post has now made me wonder if the ecu might be damaged by doing this , but I can't really see how .
    What do you reckon ?

  16. You are not alone.
Last year my 1098 would not start.
It had a Fully charged new battery fitted and still would not start. I jumped it as well and still no luck.
I put the diagnostics on and the faults were coils injectors an CPS.
I know the Starter circuit takes a lot of power and suspected it was depriving the ECU
I fitted a new injector relay and also tried bridging the starter solenoid in case that had high resistance. Still nothing
I had used google and there was a lot of info in the world with people suffering the same
I was left with 1) faulty CPS 2) faulty injectors 3) faulty coils 4) faulty starter motor. Or Sprag Clutch.
I decided to fit new coils and CPS and Hey Presto

    Nothing.

Long story short fitted a new sprag and all was well again

  17. it needs a born and bred sparkie on here to give the definitive answer so will either P.M. you later or await some wisdom on here.
