That’s easy . The Motor Cycle Noise Act 1987 prohibits the supply of motor cycle exhaust systems and silencers likely to result in the emission of excessive noise; and for connected purposes. In the UK, the noise limit for a motorbike is set at 80dB, with an extra 6dB added to account for mechanical noise. which translates to : you can’t change it from standard, decat it or alter much other than appearance which is probably why the V4s multistrada termi end can does little beyond looks good.
The std exhaust of many bikes are cheated to comply with the noise regulations, by use of flapper valves, but fall outside them, albeit not by a large margin, otherwise. The 1260 Multistrada is one of the models banned from several Austrian passes I'm lead to believe.
As with drive-by noise tests at circuits any noise detection devices are going to be a fair distance from your exhaust. Not half a metre away at 45 degrees. Bearing in mind that a standard 959 Exhaust static tests at 98db static - and it’s pretty quiet by many standards. Run the same test from a set of microphones at the top of a pole that have to account for other traffic and ambient noise and the db reading is going to be much less. I would hazard a guess that if you just ride normally through a city - even with a pretty loud exhaust then you will be ok - if you have a loud pipe and are giving it the beans in a built up area - then that’s going to trigger it.
As above, even if they do roll it out, I don’t think it will be as menacing as it sounds as although partly dependent on circumstances, it’s far harder to pick out the individual offender compared to that of a numberplate recognition system and if they intend to convert this into a means of “remote” prosecuting, then I don’t think it will be an easy task.
Reading through this thread I think I'll be more concerned about the 7"x5" plate on my Streetfighter than the Termi's on it. Static it measures around 89db, so doubt that will be singled out by a noise cam. Prob time to put a legal plate on.
This bill has a long way to go. The current political chaos is likely to mean silly time wasting legislation like this will not make the cut.
Our local councillors opinion; These immature drivers want us to look at them like they are amazing. They think they look like Hollywood superstars when in reality, everyone thinks they are complete idiots. These manboys need to be stopped."
There's been resident campaigns putting pressure on the local MPs and police to pull their fingers out on this. There's also been issues with drift meets in business parks, often late at night. I like a 'nice' sounding car/bike, but this trend towards making your chavy shitbox bang and pop and be is loud as possible is just c*nty IMO. "Little boy got a hot rod Thinks it makes him some kind of new god"
You get twats on their AMG C63 Mercedes driving round the centre of Brum like an idiot popping and banging their motors. Absolute bellends and hopefully we will see these knobheads get prosecuted too. And the super car clowns in central London……’look at me my car is noisy’.
Begs the question what effect this will have on us good considerate citizens with termignonis and the like?
“Testing different noise measurement technologies with a range of vehicles in this controlled environment means we can ensure tickets are only sent to drivers with illegal and antisocial cars or bikes. https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/news/mo...new-trial-to-banish-loud-engine-and-exhausts/
I live halfway up a hill and the noise these cars make is obscene. I do occassionally hear the odd Ducati, but even they dont come close to the noise the cars are making, plus theyre riding with care usually. Altho there is a nobhead on a quad (no lid either) who likes to make a nuisance of himself. Im hoping Karma will take care of them as he is a poor rider. Sure, my 1299 is not quiet, but Im always at low revs in urban areas. Im not revving the nuts off it. Never shit on your own doorstep. The twat with the Nissan round here is likely to find his car vandalised by his neighbours. I feel for them. I avoid loomies a272 like the plague.
I'm all for modding cars/bikes and a nice sounding exhaust sometimes even loud ones I do smile when hearing them The main road behind me is full of pops and bangs on a daily basis I appreciate I don't have anti social driving by me and not sure I would be happy if I did though we do have a young neighbour with a loud exhaust who drives slowly down the street in the evening now. When he first had it it was like a jet engine going past and I thought what the hell is that!!! When I was a teenager growing up (80's) The local swimming baths car park was full with modded cars and we all raced around even me in my dads golf I had a 1275gt mini with a peco exhaust
I expect the noise cameras will depend upon the usual, 'you've been identified, it's up to you to prove your innocence', ie by not challenging, you're accepting you're at fault
The county is filling up with McDonalds fed fucktards. Swindon famously does not have any speed cameras and has become the go to place to chav it up. They don't drive by and fuck off, they make a circuit of the inner distribution roads. It's been shit for a few years now. The police have been utterly crap at dealing with it, low priority as far they're concerned. It's getting to the point were people are threating to buy their own stingers. Basic consideration has been replaced by nihilism and quick dopamine squirt.
Checked the character size this morning, way too small. Legal character size 79mm high x 50mm wide. Mine are way smaller.
I got a plate from here that meets legal requirements but is still nice and compact. https://www.jdmplates.co.uk/product...smjHi7Q207wnLd20TQwMXGRIneZEkRHBoCEDMQAvD_BwE
Not too many comments from the aforementioned "shit heads "with super loud bikes or cars to explain why their behavior is warranted. I imagine vast majority of them are careful to keep the revs low on the roads near their own homes in order to avoid being grounded by their wives or parents!
