I suspect the majority are now starting to understand that there is a price to pay when demanding tax cuts ad finitum. Healthcare, schooling, justice system... there is only so much money you can take out of them before services start to fail or be non existent.
Motorbikes (and cars) have always had noisy exhausts and there have been various efforts to stop them over the years but it hasn't worked. Back in the day your bike would fail an MoT if your exhaust wasn't BS marked, but my MoT test place at the time (and many others) would happily sell you a BS sticker for £1, stick it on to your loud can for you, pass the bike as it was now displaying the BS mark. It had normally melted into an unrecognisable blob by the time you got home. Nowadays go onto any manufacturer (bikes and some cars) and they all list them but how many Desert Xs will actually need a loud exhaust to go racing for example? But you can buy one. Or you can go on line and buy an empty bit of carbon tube and bolt it on with very little chance of anything happening. However, my daily driver pops and bangs if I press the 'sport' button and that's completely stock so I do wonder how long it will before it ends up in court, either against the owner or the owner taking the garage / manufacturer that sold them the standard vehicle...
