Try TyreToTravel - for planning. Easy to upload to Garmin or Tomtom. You can drag & drop waypoints and do points of interest. It makes my Garmin almost bearable.

 

Tyreto didnt work on mac last time I looked, inroute works well if using apple product

 

Sw motech do mount & case waterproof with sun visor on for £45. Use Tom tom car sat nav £100 lifetime map up dates. Cheap option
