As I understand it, BMW maintain a good press fleet and are much more generous than other makes about lending bikes to journalists on request. This costs BMW money, but in the long term it gets them a lot more favourable coverage in magazines. Unless anybody knows different.
I stopped reading MCN because it reminded me too much of my ex wife? She thought she knew everything, was never ever wrong, nobody else's opinion mattered and the sun shone out of her arse.Fuck them both
Yeah it's pretty turd these days... I bet it's reader base is still bigger than the mags though? I just don't know anyone that reads it. I stopped reading it years ago when they went through the phase of every week having an anti speed camera article on the front page and how they are 'out to get us'
In 2009, average weekly circulation was 114,304 copies according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations,[4] and 2010 it was 106,446 copies.[5] The figure for 2013 was 85,651.[1] In 2014 it was 77,721 (print and digital combined). No updated figures since 2014. 33% drop in 5 years. Sadly, I give it another 5 years before its gone.
Decline is part down to digital media, mostly down to lazy and inaccurate journalism. Wont be missed.
I will buy MCN sport every now and again, largely for the excellent photography. I can't help but think they save a lot of decent content for this over the weekly.
Maybe I'm in a minority here, but I like it. Got a subscription, reckon its a worthwhile read for the money. Wednesdays just wouldn't be the same without one............
I've always thought people are over critical of MCN. Yes they make mistakes, but often they write things up whilst at the track etc. I enjoy reading their stuff.
It's just entertainment, isn't it? If you don't find it entertaining, there probably isn't any point buying it. Though as Rob says, it will be gone soon, so no real need to worry if you don't like it.
Bauer's bike mag and MCN stable is stagnant because the editorial gene pool is a tired, incestuous, soup. This month, Classic Bike features 7 full pages on the brand NEW Bonnevilles: New Editor? Gary Pinchin, ex MCN - WTF have brand new Bonnies got to do with Classic Bike? Will Classic Bike now be dedicated to anything new from anyone relaunching any old bike brand? Or anything new that is styled like an old bike? Lazy arse-wipe re-hash journalism, just filling 7 pages(!) with something he's probably syndicated elsewhere and simply dusted off for a few more easy quid. MotoGP coverage in MCN written by an idiot who has decided we need tabloid headlines and puns-a-plenty in order to be able follow his lightweight, superficial, sensationalist, scribblings - his reports waver somewhere between the Sun and Viz.... full of imagined things that could have happened, if only something else had happened first, but they fucking never have, so why are we expected to waste our time reading cretinous postulations of the, 'so fucking what' variety. 'Rossi was probably thinking.....' I bet he wasn't.. 'Marquez could have fallen off if Iannone had hit him hard enough'.. but he didn't and he didn't - so why dream it up? Simply to pad the very few facts you are able to report, that's why. Column inch after column inch filled with that sort of stupid spume! Other than that, the pictures are nice.
I buy it mainly for the sport section ,find the road tests a bore.got fed up with the track testing so i'm cancelling this week, may start again next racing season.
Last time I bought it was when Simoncelli died and there was a tribute edition. I bought it when there was a Ducati edition, and they managed to make a Horlicks of that.
