  1. Bikers - Maz Harris
    Extreme Weather - ???? Lane
Lord of the Rings - Tolkien
    Nam - Mark Baker
Tornado Down - John Peters/John Richards
Bringing down the House - Ben Mezrich

  2. A Prayer for Owen Meaney & A Son of The Circus. Both by John Irving and both slow starters while the stage is being set but almost impossible to put down once they get going.

  3. Both absolutely stunning books.

    Did you like Garp too?

  4. Yes , very much. John Irving is my favourite author.

  11. True At First Light by Hemingway? That was pretty good.

  12. No I’m sure he means First Light by Geoff Wellum. He was the youngest Spitfire pilot at the Battle of Britain. It’s a great read & very moving when he talks about how, although he’s had a good life it’s been impossible to achieve those highs again when you’ve flown a Spit in anger at aged 18.

  13. I have the DVD too!

  14. I quite like Bryce Courtenay as an author, particularly Brother Fish, Four Fires, Fishing For Stars, and of course The Power Of One.

Then there is Angela's Ashes and 'Tis by frank McCourt.

  15. When I read this years ago it sparked my interest in exploring Spain. On a bike though, not on foot!

  16. That's one of my favourites too. Have you read A Rose For Winter (title from memory) - when L.L. retraced his steps through, a very different, Spain along with his wife. A lovely read...

I have read this a number of times and still can't believe anyone survived. It was loosely adapted into the film "Everest" although Krakauer didn't like the film apparently.

A great book for dipping into over again. Best read in the middle of winter with the lights low and the curtains left open. You never know what you might see out of the corner of your eye moving past the window.....
