  4. Mine somehow acquired an Ohlins steering damper with a lovely Harris mounting kit over the last week... Also managed to de-sticker the Scorpion successfully and resist fitting the standard silencer. New Yamaha brake reservoir cap coming to replace the tacky chrome job and a nice new rear undertray to restore the cut rear mudguard. Then it'll be stock and in great shape. It's a killer bike!

  5. Well, rough running turned out to be blocked carbs, on closer inspection the tank was pretty corroded internally, just over 4000 miles & a lot of time stood still, modern fuel took its toll !
The apple cider vinegar certainly works, I'm going to seal the tank too, so I don't get the problem again, time consuming, but I'm luvin it!

  6. Not frustrating if you purchased purely as an investment decision and they are in your house to view every day, so long as you have others to play with of course :Angelic:

  7. The fact that they are in your eye line every day would make it an even more frustrating experience. At least if they were in the garage with a blanket over them you may not think about the fact that you've made a horrible mistake. :D

  8. Yes, I guess your right, buying a 4XV R1 with zero miles and unregistered for less that second had ones are selling for, what was I thinking
Better than your Tamya models though :Finger:

  9. Ooooooo touchy. :)

Did you mean ARE selling for or WERE selling for at the time you bought it? ;) Ah, appreciation. I've a few bikes that have done that too, and my house, a few watches. It's a good game this.

What does it ride like? :Hilarious:

Oh and it's Tamiya, and I don't own any. :p

  10. Not too dissimilar to my other R1 :Angelic:
The month I bought it one went for double ;)
Don't buy watches, they are stupid :Bucktooth: obsolete things...

  11. Agreed :)

So do you wanna sell me one of these R1 things on the cheap? They aren't worth much as I'll have to get them serviced. :D

  12. One is on the road - and yes you can that one for a decent price :) it's very nice too... :D

  13. Another 4XV owner here, ive had my blue 1999 R1 since 2001. On its 2nd engine now having blew the gearbox up a few years back through doing too many 2nd gear wheelies.

Cracking bikes, mines far from standard and on the road seems quicker than any newer bikes I come up against, so ive never felt the need to get rid of it.

Was paying just £60 a year to insure it until I switched to a multi-bike policy when I got the 996.

I didnt realise they had gone up in value, they were around the £2k mark when I last looked.

I remember when they came out like it was yesterday. Dealers couldnt sell the red/white ones for love nor money as everyone wanted the blue ones. My local dealer at one point was respraying the red/white ones blue just to shift them. Now the 98 red/white one seems to be the most collectable.

  14. I've just got a 4xv too...a 99 red/white. my mates had an orig red/white 98 one for years and I rode it a few times and liked it so now I'm not racing the 675 anymore the choice of bike to replace it was obvious.

  15. Yes, the red seat is more popular now as more people are out of the closet these days :Angelic:

  16. Bike values are weird. I bought an 08 R1 with 18k on it in 2013 for £4500, sold it two weeks ago for £5400 with 33k on the clock.
