The Graham winder points up your arm, so there's actually no sticky out bits at all in the usual direction, does wonders for your shirt cuffs. A big box winder transforms your watch collection until you fill it then you are back to square one then you fill it's successor and so it goes on and on. One reason I have never bought a winder!, no limit then. there is by repute a good indie/local watch repairer in yate I think, I'll trawl through the memory banks and see if I can find/confirm. I've never used him personally as yet , but heard good reports. there are some quite lively watch fora, if that's your interest, even a section on piston heads, but that is not overly active. TZ is the most friendly and amusing one I've come across so far, but like here, if you don't exhibit the correct protocols of bahviour with your first post, the mickey taking is amusing/merciless.
Anyone else find it odd that a $300k watch, on which they are inviting offers (so presumably would take a few grand less for) still carries a $70 shipping charge? I mean, I was about to buy it until I noticed... :wink:

My first decent watch and I have the original rounded 'Links' not the later angular one, still with alternate polished and brushed links, but a smaller less masculine statement, a watch of it's time, the early 90's.

Always had Casio G Shocks when in the Army, decided to buy a nice watch when I left, now have a Rolex GMT2 Bi-Metal and love it. Its scratched to buggery but its worn every day at work, when out on the bike and when swimming in the sea on hols.
Like you'd want to drop £180'000 to some outfit on the Bay of Sleaze. When looking for the real McCoy watch the word you are looking for (in French) is "manufacture". This means that they make all their own bits, instead of just assembling other people's. It might work for Aprilia, or even Ducati, but for real watch credibility, you want it all made in-house. Zenith and Jaeger Lecoultre spring immediately to mind. Though a good friend of mine finally coughed up for a Zenith (he's a city lawyer - it's not like he couldn't have afforded it eons ago). It's gone wrong about 3 times in the first couple of years of ownership and their after sales service is a joke. As a Swissie, I say this with a tear in my eye. Zentih are quite a local firm to me. I don't have a nice watch because I can't afford the nigh-on CHF 10'000 I'd need to buy one that I'd really like. I don't intend having more than one. Sadly, I find that when at work with this MacBook Pro, I have to take my watch off because it catches on the edge of the laptop. I have never spent so much time not wearing a watch. So there'd barely be even any point having a nice one. Watches are a minefield here in Switzerland as people are so watch-literate. What looks cool in the UK often doesn't here.
Glidd, how far back in manufacturing do they go? Do they make from raw materials? buy in screws? ratchet wheels, bridges, balance pivots, springs? I'm not being a facetious, genuinely would like to know where they start from.
Y'know, you can send them back to Rolex for a service and the watch will come back LIKE NEW! They refinish the bracelet reolace the crystal if necessary etc etc. It's not cheap but I had it done to my President and, if you love the watch, was worth every penny! Contact your nearest authorised rolex dealer for details.
