There's a few things to be said for a naff watch.

Normally they tell the time very well - better than a nice expensive one.
They are often waterproof - you can swim and dive in them.
No one's going to mug you to steal it.
They don't cost anything.
If you lose it, it's not the end of the world.


On the downside, your business associates just know you are a sad failure who has never made a bean and will accordingly pay you no respect.
Good looking women will shun you in social interactions.

Oh well. Have to weigh the for and against. (And if you have no cash, come out in favour of the for).
