1200 Anyone On The 1200r Yet

Discussion in 'Monster' started by spanish, Mar 12, 2016.

  1. What a positive review-just want to get on one now after reading that. Looking forward to a ride on Saturday when the Ducati roadshow comes to town in Cambridge. Expected delivery of my bike is this month or next and will have to then make a decision as to whether to hold onto my Multi or not. For several reasons do not want to have two bikes but the Multi is great for luggage and touring (off with mates on a camping tour of Spain in May).

  2. Just added some Kriega dry packs. I've removed the seat cowl, but the bags fit equally well with them on. It took me a while to find the best location to install the sub-frame straps, and then to get them locked off without interfering with the seating mechanism, but I'm very happy with the result. One of the pictures shows the sub-frame 'tie-down' hooks, without the bags attached. I can turn these back under the seat, making them completely invisible when the seat is place. Quality bit of kit.....

  3. Interesting photos. Is that a US10 and US20? Quite tempted by a 1200R still to replace my Multi.

  4. Yep, US10 & 20. There're not overly stuffed :eyes: either, I could get a lot more 'gear' in them if I wanted too.

  5. agree i had a test ride on the 1200 S and i loved it but the pillion pegs would have annoyed me as i ride on the balls of my feet a lot of the time,i would have went for the 1200 R as they have sorted this problem but it's way to expensive just now. i got myself a used speed triple R and i love it, although i might change it for the 1200 R in a few years once it becomes more affordable

  6. Hi,

Thanks for the welcome in newbies hangout. Picking up my Monster R tomorrow and dodging the April showers this week to hurry and run it in before the 'nice' weather begins.
    Nice Kreiga pics too.

    Cheers, Tim

  7. Send pictures! Love the look of Ron's up there, looks mean as hell. Ron - tail tidy and lose the orange reflectors and you are there :)

    Just had a look - 16k with Termi's. Yikes.

  8. Ducati road show in Cambridge at the weekend and had a 1 hour ride on the R on Saturday. Wonderful bike. Did everything well. Highlights for me were the ease of 'turning in' , amazing amount of low down torque and, although obviously can be ridden very fast, can also be ridden in a relaxed way without any problems at all. A really super bike- just a shame about the price. Looking forward to having one. Will need to sort our 'luggage' but very helpful comments and pics by Ron.

  9. Placed my order for 1200R today with some goodies to go with it
Looking forward to it being delivered soon

  10. Orange reflectors were removed on mine by request to the dealer - hideous !!

  11. Any 'repair' needed after removing those hideous reflectors?

  12. No. They're just really strong double sided stickers. Can't tell the were ever there. Suspect might need some alcohol rub / white spirit etc to fully remove any glue residue

  13. Removed them off mine too. Dead easy - tiny amount of WD40 or similar sprayed on the rear of the reflector, (keeping it away from the disc obviously) then get a small piece of dental floss or light fishing line, and place that behind the reflector. Use a downwards sawing action behind the reflector and they come right off. Remaining sticker remnants that is left on the fork stanchion can be removed easily with some more WD40. Took no more than 10 mins - left no trace/mark whatsoever.....

  14. A cpl of pics of the beast ^^ just about run in now. Really enjoying it, was torn between the XDiavel and this and glad I went for the Monster R even tho the price is a bit crazy for a Monster the grin factor is worth it to me.

  15. Looks :eyes: great Tim.

My first service is booked on the 30th. It'll be nice to ride it without worrying about bursting that '6k' level on the tacho

    Gotta love those Termi's :upyeah:

  16. Thinking about adding them once I've got the 1st service out of the way. Guess you've not really hear the standard to give a comparison ?

  17. Yeah, I have heard an R with the standard end cans, and whilst they are ok, they just don't give the Monster the sound it deserves. If you do get to put them on, you defo won't regret it (but your neighbours might :eek:penmouth:)

  18. Lol. My car (BMW M3) has a full Akrapovic on it, so not sure that's an issue ;-)

  19. Had a Diavel before and for me the Testastretta is one of the best engines that Ducati has today. Having said this, the 1200R felt more refine with its engine, less vibrations than Diavel more free to spin and go even quicker. This is easily the best water cooled Monster that we have.
Position is comfier, wide bars higher and you sit more "in" the bike. Ohlins gives great feedback point. Felt unbiased connection with the front without it being wooden stiff. The raised rear and Ohlins shock really helps the handling and yeah, this bike flicks with such an easiness! Amazing.
The cans are euro 4 and there are no legal road options available so have to wait long to get others.
I would have easily bought this one at the time I got my Diavel.
By the way currently own. S1000R and a new Hyper 939 SP.
Despite of what you say about the BMW it is a great motorcycle the one difference is that the bike does lots for you with its dynamic dampening control. Do the price is the best deal for fun thrills and ultimate handling, it is comfy as it is sporty or track ready and it has on top shifter, cruise control, heated grips engine modes. Sure it is not a Ducati but for an inline four it sounds great. Now the 1200R represents all what Ducati does, compromises means lack of gadgets, high price but a sexy looking machine! A great mountain riding bike no doubt you won't be disappointed. I didn't wanted overlap with my BMW plus it lacks many gadgets I use a lot on my every day.

  20. My 1200 R arrives next Sat ( back with termignoni exhausts )
    Only seven day to wait
